yellowfin tuna

This week was the St. Francis tuna comp and I was invited to fish aboard 'Taffity' an ex Gordons Bay butt-cat...

Well we only caught one weighable tuna, the first one of the comp. It is my biggest yellowfin to date and weighed in at a mighty 20.6kg HAHA

Most fish on the first day were this size and so far the largest fish is a 81kg Bigeye caught aboard Lalandi the One. I will try organize a pic

So here it is...

it just about swallowed one of these

caught it on a tiagra 50 combo, what overkill but ja at least I didnt blank and also got a nice 1kg skipjack in my freezer for sliding purposes

there were plenty birds around on the second day as a trawler was pulling its nets and loosing some of its catch (couldnt see what specifically)

saw - yellownosed albatross

shy albatross

white-chinned petrel

cape petrel aka 'tuna bird'

and one or two other brown one's im unsure of

the brown ones you talking about, were they big and ugly? could be Giant petrals!

lol yes, nearly like the white-chin but with a less fancy beak

they a lot bigger than the white chinned petrels though, prob twice their size and ugly as sin

For us "Tunaless" Luanda folks that is a very nice YFT.

Are those bird pics yours also? I've recently gained an intrest on all the birds we find while fishing.

AD - good fish!!!! Did it taste as good as it fought? (I have a personal philosophy that taste is proportionate to how badly the fish didn't want to be boated) - and you can taste it in the sushimi quality - particularly when it was the one you caught!!!!!

Well I was ready to ask you what lens were you using on those pics and go out buy some for myselft, bumer :-(

I see you are developing you bird species spoting skills has you usually do with the fish.
