Yeld Cat 17ft

Good day Folks,

I am in the process of looking to buy a boat, I have narrowed down my options to the Yeld 17ft which I like a lot. I want to try and find a good second hand one, as scarce as hens teeth or if no luck by February I will order a new boat. Have any of you got any experience with the 17ft? I have only fished off a 19ft and was very impressed by it.

With regards to engine options, from my research I have seen that what the Yelds recommend as the best are the Yamaha 70hp 4 strokes. Could any of you perhaps comment or make any recommendations?

Thanks a lot.

I know of one for sale. Forward console incl T-top. 70hp Suzuki 4 strokes with less than 100 hours. PM me if interested & I'll put you in touch with the owner.

the word is that it is the best combo on the boat, sea wise.

but I have also read on the net, that a owner took his boat to sterk fontein dam!
and with that combo he struggled to get on the plain!

I do understand that sterk fontein is far above sea level, but was wondering why a such good combo boat would not even get onto the plane!

it would indicate to e that these boats are also heavy.

I would not buy a new boat even if I had the money!
depreciation of the vessel is too much!
a new setup would set you back in the region of about 500k!

i'll rather buy cheap and use the other r300k for some good trips!
no use having a 500k boat and it is used once a year as cash flow is a problem.

jou keuse, sterkte!!

Have sent PM with sellers details.

I have fished on the boat a few times. It has ample power for surf launching. The yeld 17 is not a heavy boat!!! Easy to tow, easy to handle on the beach.

Thanks a lot for the advice. Has anybody perhaps have any experience with the suzukis on the Yeld, I have heard a slight concern over the fact that they are a touch heavier than the yamahas but could 70odd kgs be of such a difference?

A owner of a 17ft Yeld said that he would have loved to try the suzuki's on his boat.....as the yamahas were a bit pap at altitude....

70kg is like a grown man hanging over the back of the boat.
It will hang a little more but will be fine. Those boat (and most others) are old designs from back when 2-stroke was the norm. They haven't changed anything to accommodate 4-strokes as far as I know of.

Perhaps give them a call.

Bigger displacement usually means more torque. Perhaps consider weight. If you are going 4-stroke, bear in mind that is a lot heavier than 2-strokes that the boat was designed for. But I think it will be fine.
