Where is the best to take the boat for a service in Cape Town. Talking quality service. Have to get motors ( Yamaha 60 4 strokes ) serviced.

Advise would be appreciated.

There is only one place I take mine to and thats Heineman Yamaha in Swellendam.

I know its far but since I travel to Mosselbay a lot they are on the way. GREAT service!!!

Tough decision where to take your motors, I am nervous as hell whenever my boat is in the hands of someone else.....

Chris - That the reason for this post. Whant to get it done before going on holiday. Dont want to sit with motors giving trouble after a service - that soooo often happens.

Ja Arno, big difference between a guy that is excellent in servicing two strokes as he could very well be k@k on 4strokes...totally different setup.

I reckon the answer to the problem of outboard servicing for guys that know tools and are a bit technical minded is a good workshop manual and maybe a course on these motors and then start doing it yourself, esp given how often they are supposed to be serviced.

I service my two strokes myself , and then take it to Heineman for a mayor overall check evry noooow and then, esp for things like impellors etc where I dont wanna scratch.

Here's my pick "closer" to Bellville:

Magson Marine - Strand: I'm not sure about the quality of service, as I haven't taken my motors there, but they have been Yamaha agents for as long as I can remember, and they have been around a very ong time.

Aquamall - S/West, Strand : but they are Mariner agents. I have had services there in the past with no complaints, but they were mariner motors. I would think he'll do Yamaha as well though, they seem a pretty sorted lot.

Trefco (as mentioned above) - I have had services there as well, and I haven't ever had problems with my motors (2-stroke Mercs), but I have had some 'shoddy' workmanship with the untidy way they replaced my steering cables etc (this was sorted out though when I complained), but they are also not Yamaha agents.

Droomers - Voortrekker Rd, Bellville: I have no '"Boating" experience with them, but there motorcycle work has been good and I have seen them working on outboard motors in their workshop. They ARE yamaha agents as well. (m/cycles and marine)

The rest is in the S/Suburbs, but I have no experience of them. Not that I've had much of the above - my choice from the interaction I've had (not actual service) for you would probably be Magson's, simply due to them being around for so long, and I haven't heard negatives.

Good luck - hopefully someone can give you more "hands-on" advice.

Hiya

Anhor Boat Shop in Paarden Island. Speak to Dudley. They're YAMAHA agents and Dudley is probably one of THE most knowledgable guys in the country when it comes to YAMAHA's. Call them on 021 5112133

VERY highly recommended!!

Hey Arno, I have taken my boat to Dudley(Anchor Boat) and have no complaints. The guys in the workshop (Winston and his team) are friendly and have gone out of thier way for me in the past. They say a way to a mans heart is through his stomach, so I suppose owning a bakery has its advantages. Cheers Paul (MM)

I called Anchor boat shop yesterday to get a price of basic service  they gave a price of R600 / motor    -   any extras will also be added to price i.e work on carbs etc.

I have personally gone to visit them to look for a boat and in doing so had a look at their work shop.I was really impressed with their setup and had a run through the work shop by very friendly staff and experienced Techs.

I will recommmend Anchor Boat shop

cheers

Ditto Anchor Boat Shop/Dudley/Bobby/Winson. Been with them since 1990 and 6 Yamahas later had only joy. They have even advised me after hours per telephone when at Clanwilliam dam. Dudley will always "make a plan"
