hwsit gents, just went for a quick evening paddle ,I picked up a decent wolf herring first cast behind back line just south of the mouth on the spinning gear with a duplex and then from then on it was just shot for shot. Only managed to land about 1 in every 6 fish hooked due to their amazing acrobatics and ability to throw a lure just as you try and lift them into the hatch but was great fun on the light stick and good way to spend an hour ,catching fish and watching the sun set over durban. Anyways, does anyone have any info on what to do with these buggers. I hear they are great croc couta bait?

Howsit bru. 1 in 6 sounds about right hey. Those buggers are quiet silky at getting off the hook.

The trace you need is attached. Trick is to make sure you leave one hands width gap between trebles. Some guys don't use a bait swimmer. But I do...a little one ounce bottle sinker on the lead hook. They work for big couta and small ones take them too. They shed their scales in the water, give off strong scent and lots of light. You don't need a skirt or flasher.

Good luck boss.

True mr. Rocks, the bigger lead hook makes it easier to rig. The short top jaw makes it interesting.. Something I've tried with good success rate is rigging the silky upside down(similar to a razor belly). This has 2 effects; firstly the silky swims better 'cause of the broad back section and narrower belly - center of gravity being lower in the water. Also the shiny belly on the top creates a lot of flash in the water..

Was reading go fish this morning. With wolf herring the top guys use no.7 wire between trebles and pin the bait through the bottom jaw to the lead hook. It mostly a top water dweller so down rig no more than 2 ounce.

Walla walla pin through top jaw and down rig from 6 ounce.

Wolf herring pull in between the snoek - croc couta after the snoek will pic up the wolf herring.
