Hey guys.

I am keen to go fish at Meerhof this Saturday. Has anyone maybe got a contact number for the resort or any info regarding this? Not too sure how it works if bookings is essential or if you just rock up at the resort and go in???

Howzit guys,

I'm new to the forum, I've only been flyfishing for the past 8-9 years but have decided to target carp again occasionaly. I want to go to either Meerhof/Ifafi I've never been to either but from what I've read on this forum these seem to be the best spots around Harties?

We would like to stay over for Saturday night, my question is, does these resorts get very busy even in winter? As this to me is the biggest factor when fishing. I'll rather have 100m of bank to myself and blank than catching fish in a packed place ::S

Did anyone maybe fish there over the past couple of weekends to confirm how busy it was?

Thanks guys

Both are good venues , but the hisants seems to be the major problem at both venues.

But meerhof is better of the two venues

Tight lines

So spent Saturday night at Meerhof, what a terrible weekend, didn't have one bite my buddy got one small 2kg on Sunday . And when my buddy woke up 3:30am looking for his car keys we realised that someone had slipped into our tent and took both our car keys, and my phone which were lying 15cm from my head. They then proceded to my car, took cash, my bag with clothes etc.

We were isolated from another group of campers apparently on the far right of the resort so we were an easy target.

The next day my wife and kids came through to join us for the day, when she got to the gate she jokingly said to the owner that she was there to "save" us because we were robbed. He then arrogantly told her that we must have been drunk and that he always tell people to lock their stuff in their vehicles and tents to avoid this kind of thing happening...

Now of course I agree that we as anglers have to be vigilant but I feel that some resort owners also just don't do enough, Meerhof isn't the cheapest place to camp so for the money I would think they could at least over weekends have a guard at night, or just install a couple of beams around the perimeter of the property to make it a bit more difficult for the guys to get in.

But as with most other things I think you have to take care of everything yourself to get something done. So from now on I'll go camping with 2 beams to set up a perimeter around my camp and a lock on the inside of the tent obviously they can still cut the tent open like they have been doing at Roodekoppies.

I was however well impressed by the Harties police department, got there at 6:15am Sunday, opened a case, purely for insurance purposes as I didn't think anyone will look at the docs twice let alone do something about it. 30 mins later 2 inspectors pitched up at Meerhof, questioned us etc. Then another one came and spent more than an hour to try and extract finger prints from my vehicle and other goods. It was a pleasant surprise to actually see people that are friendly and really look like they wanted to help and do their job properly, and not the usual "Dont give a Damn" attitude that you get from government departments.

They also confirmed that this was probably the first incident at the resort this year.

So we were a bit unlucky..easy target..etc

I don't give a sh!t about the goods they stole, but the thought of what would have happened should one of us have woken up while the Thief was in the tent, because I'm sure they go in prepared should that happen.

Be careful guys.

Ps. After the owners attitude towards my wife I did not bother talking to him on the way out as it would probably have worsen my weekend even more.
