Witsand in September

Hi Guys,

I will be at Witsand from 24-27 Sept. After a long winter, I'm absolutely itching to wet a line and get stuck into a few fish.

I'll be mostly trying to target Garrick and Kob on artificials and light tackle, take a couple pics and release them. It could be a little early in the season (but I just can't wait any longer) and if everything is quiet then I might pump a few prawns and get stuck into the grunter.

Give me a shout if you are going be be in the area, It's always great to grab a couple drinks and share stories from a day on the water.

All the best.

Hi JD,

Can you give me a little information about the skins? I tried to Google but the most recent hit was for 2012. Am I correct in thinking that it will be just off the rocks and not in the river?

Thanks

Correct, only beach/rock and surf. Not all of us are fortunate to own a boat :).
Try PM Flippy here on Sealine, I think he has all the info.

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd give a report on my time at the breede this weekend.

Thursday and Friday produced great weather and it was a pleasure spending some time in the sun on a glassy breede. The good weather brought the anglers out in their droves and the river was extremely busy. Saturday and Sunday brought poor weather and no any more fish as far as I could see.

During the weekend we put in some time targeting Kob (paddletails and livebait), Leeries (livebait and plugs) and grunter (prawns). It was really quiet and we didn't manage to get one decent fish the entire weekend. Our total was 3 kob and 3 steenbras all between 35 and 50cm (undersize fish). Although the fishing wasn't great it's always nice to spend some time at the river.

On a side note, I took a walk down the beach on Saturday afternoon to see how the guys were doing with the skins. Saw one Belman and one Jan Bruin, but the general sentiment was that the guys also struggled.

Any other news or reports from the weekend? It would be nice to know if I just did something wrong or if the water temperature and mass of fisherman meant that everyone found it tough.

I was also up there for the weekend, I caught a grunter of about 4 kg from the shore on Thursday afternoon but other than that there wasn't much coming out. Also caught a tiny leerie. ::tight:

Congrats on the grunter, 4kg is a lovely specimen and you must have been one of the few people to come right on Thursday.

Which area and what what bait did you get the grunter and lerrie on?

Thanks, I was wading out on the Witsand side. I caught the grunter on prawn and the leerie on a 1/2 oz surface plug, but as I said it was tiny :?
