Yip Craig tells no lies - it was rather blustery in Noordhoek this weekend.
The rain and wind could not stop me putting on my signage and getting the kit organised.
Will be registering the trailer tomorrow morning and hopefully getting it surveyed in the evening - as you would expect really watching this weekends weather with anticipation! Can't wait!

but must say she is literally perfect.
The layout of the KC is pure fish I must say. Going to be exceedling comfortable to fish 4 up! If anyone wants to have a squizz just drop me a line

Since my last post I have managed to put the signage on (on Sunday in the rain), registered the trailer and surveyed the boat.
Last night thanks to the posts here I have fitted in line cut-offs for my pickups which will save me having to swap them in the rolling swell. Switch one off and turn other one on or that is the theory at least - don't see any reason why it won't work. Will post pictures when I get a chance.
Saturday sees the last preps. Fitting a new livebait/deckwash pump (Craig ran out of time against my delivery demands to source one) and modifying the trolling boards. As Bennie pointed out they are a little to parrellel so the are going to be moved slightly and again courtesy of the pics here, holes to be added to hold lures when not in use.
I must thank the guys sharing on this forum for giving me some lank good ideas - really looking forward to putting it all into practice on Sunday (Sat is mommys baby shower)

WindFinder, WeatherSA Ski Boat Report and Weather 24 recorded a surge in hits during the course of last week as I watched anxiously what the weather was going to be like on Sunday.
My sympathies extended to the Snoek Shootout guys on Saturday morning as I watched the trees being battered from my bed as the rain pelted down. In fairness only a tsunami would have stopped me going out but it was with some relief that the weather looked do'able on Sunday late morning - probably avaeraging around 40kms/hr with a 3 m swell.
Of course maiden voyages always have there challenges and ours was in the form of a flooded left motor (my fault entirely) followed by a frame relay issue on my landy. The old girl is starting to get tempremental in her old age
After resolving the issues we are on the water. The sea was not big but nasty and very choppy as we set off to the point in search of a few snuggles.
How was the ride?
Well I was very pleasantly surprised. The 2 X 60 bigfoots have immense torque on the KC and little throttle adjustments allowed me to manage the chop very well. I was convinced that when I had the opportunity she would top out at aroud 70kms given what was clearly in reserve at 3000 to 3500 revs. I maintained a healthy 25 to 30 km/hr on the way to Buffels which was pretty much what I used to do in the Vision 24. The motors are also very quiet in relation to the 50 yammies, 75 mercs and 115 mariners I have had previously.
One bonus was that having expected the worst based on my previous Duck and CC Mono, the ride as well ... 100% dry. The spray stays very low and is solid as opposed to fine which I guess gives the wind little purchase. The only time one of the crew got wet (we were three up - but given size make that four) was when one of the guys sat right up front as we cruized directly into the swell.
We did a quick meander through the bay before we spotted a couple of battered commercials at play just on the outside. The group was quite dispersed and we anchored around the middle and waited as the snoek came through every now and then. Not a red letter day by any means but we got 4 snoek and 2 gurnards on a combo of jig and sard.
The wind dropped slightly and we made our way back. Surprise number two was the cats response to a following sea. My big mono previously needed some attention on the following swell but the KC was extremely stable on it's course and we averaged 35 - 40 kms/hr on the return trip.
At this stage I was itching for some calm water to really up the taps. As we entered Millers I opened up and we topped out at a surprising low 55km/hr. I was geneuinely surprised as I thought it would be much faster. This of course is entirely academic as I would never use it and if given the choice the reposiveness of the bigfoot torque would always win.
Checking the fuel - gave me a rough consumption figure of just less tha 1/2 litre per motor per km. This was in nasty choppy seas in which we had to work to stay on the plane comfortably so in calm conditions I see this improving somewhat - but all in all quite comfortable.
So did it live up to the pictures and service from Sliver Lake Marine? You betcha - as my mate said this is a yellow tail machine and I cannot wait for the buggers to make their appearance soon.
I am useless with pics when I am jolling but will post when I get a chance especially the sweet fuel tank cut-offs and lekker place for my slinky deckwash I found.
A couple of recommendations if you are after the KC.
1. Outmounts have their fans and their critics. Having fished on two boats now that have them must say I like. Just leaves the deck much cleaner.
2. The KC is a lot bigger than it appears in the pictures. The layout I have on my boat I must say is superb and offers so much packing space. I have all my safety equipement, life jackets and two spare jerry cans in the front hatch leaving the deck clean.
3. The cooler box and underfloor hatches as options are well worth it. They provide lekker cold coolies while the fish hatches are a very clean option in relation to the centre hatch.
4. The console layout that Craig did for me and as per photos previously works really well. Everying is visable but also nicely protected.
If you want to take a squizz and are in the CT area give me a shout.
