You know, I've been pondering if I should go to Mteri or not.

Someone mentioned to me the other day, who has been there, it's a different ball-game those bass :whisp.

So I'm thinking, I'd rather stick to the bass here and go to Mteri when I old or getting hints of Alzheimers' :alien.

LGF,  I'm definitely going to Bass Lake this week coming. Johan mentioned that he might go as well.  We just need to work on a date that accommodates everyone wanting to go.
:vic:: Anyone wanting to go is most welcome; it would be great to see the faces behind the avatars on this forum. Please come, you know you'll regret it later :fbash

Vern a totally different ball game. But I wanted to go last year and something came up and this year I got the chance to go again so I am not missing this trip. Up here you fish and you lucky if you get a bag weight of 8kg which is a tournament wining bag in any comp. But over there you have the chance to break the 20kg bag weight. And I just think the fishing will not always be that good over there

How does Friday sound guys?

LGF/ VERN VC When I finally met VC the other day he mentioned to me that he was keen and going to Mteri. I mentioned to him that I have some excellent contacts for less hard pressed waters in ZIM (also being zimboy too) up in the vicinity of Harare. Mteri is a very nice destination with some huge bass but I have met a few individuals that have gone and hit a Blank for a weeks fishing (2 fish for the whole week - cause of a cold front or something).

Also another thing with Mteri is you have to drive - and it is flippen far)

The chap to contact about Mteri is a fella called IG Cordier - will see if I can get his number in the week - this fella does organised trips etc to Mteri several times a month - similar to Big basses buddy.

I will make some enquiries about the Harare area - Nice cause you can fly into Harare and fly right back - should be able to organize boats etc too.

Give me some time and I'll see what I can do for you.;)

VC/ Big BAss I hope you have a fantastic fish filled trip to Mteri in June

Hi VC.

From what I know Spawn at Mteri is in July/August so I think it would be a fairbet that the prespawn would be June. I know several guys that went last year had excellent success with Horny toads etc right up in the shallows and amongst the reeds.

Anyways will try and sniff out what I can.......

Sorry Bud but the work thingy got a good sized chomp from me behind again, yeah got screwed again (reminds me why i wear a condom stuck to my access card, safe sex), so this entire week is like this week gone by, work work and then some more work.  The upside of this is that I "should" then be off for the two weeks following next, and that means two weeks o fishin, which might also be a blessing in disguise looking at the weather we've been having and still have apparently even way into next week..... So my Basslake trip will be delayed but I'm going nonetheless.

Sorry Bud.

Johan, Friday good.

Can't wait; seen pics and heard good stories of the place.  But I'll have to phone Bass Lake and find out if Friday they open, long weekend and such.

LGF, sorry to hear that you have a heap of work coming :tissue.  Hopefully I might be able to join you soon when you have an open day for fishing :).

Wait a minute... If we keep mentioning that  you don't have to work this week ( Alzheimer's (cough cough)) and have a whole week free... mmmm.

Just kiddin buddy;).  Maybe you guys will allow me to join for the week after. I'd really like to meet everyone I can here:fwave

Give them a call and find out. But is Friday a public holiday? If it is then they will be closed or if they are not closed the place will be flooded with Scuba divers. So then it might be a better idea to go on Thursday. We just need to have a look at the weather as well as we need good hot weather to draw the big monsters from the dept. If there is going to be some wind and overcast then we might as well leave it till next week when the weather is better. Total cost to fish basslake is R150 plus R300 deposit and it is just over an hour’s drive. So we don’t want to drive all the way just to catch little fish the whole day

Hi Guys!

June/ July/ August are prime big Bass times at Mteri !

Been there in June 2003 and got my PB of 3.7kg (saw Eddie Welman lose a monster of at least 5kg next to the boat), went again in July/Aug 2006 and got my new PB of 4.6kg (Justin Booth caught one of 5.2kg two weeks before we arrived, Greg and Eddie got 4.4kg and 4.2kg if I rember correctly ...)! One releases 2 - 3kg Bass without a photo ... Photos are reserved for 3.5kg plus Bass! You get LOTS of  2 - 3 kg fish,  some 4kg and, perhaps, one or two bigger than 4kg. There is always a possibility of a 5 - 6kg somewhere!

If you want a great trip, try Greg and Eddie Welman. Contact Greg Welman on 082-seven, eight, five-three, eight, zero, three. You will not be sorry! Greg has an uncanny ability to put you right on the Bass! Minimum of two anglers per trip ... Check out maximums with Greg - there may be a possibility of accommodating more on this June trip ...

Johan, The weather looks grim this week. Maybe we should just skip Bass Lake this week and go next week, k?
