winching my boat

Hi Guys i need help, i want to fit an electric winch to my boat trailer to winch the boat onto the trailer off the beach when i get to Sodwana at the end of the year. It is a 5.5m gemini duck with 2 x 60 hp mariners and full fuel tanks add another 120kg.

My question is what winch to get that will work - money is a concern always but i also do not want to get stuck with my boat lying on the beach. Is a 680kg winch strong enough - i see one is for sale on gumtree- or must i rather go big with a winch on a bakkie?

Any input will be appreciated

depends where you will be using your boat if you always launching at slipways i suppose having it on your trailor is ok just remember its a bit easer to steal it when its mounted on trailor

if you ever go to moz/sodwana those type of places then rather mount it on car

for a once off holiday, hand winch it. I still handwinch my 21ft butt cat. just make sure you have a decent quality hand winch. light duty electric winch no good (IMO).

If you are going to hand winch use a snatch block.
In fact a snatch block with any winch is good idea.
If you do buy a winch make sure you stay with a name brand don't get caught by the cheep brands, have yet to see one last.

I hand winch my seacat no problem, drive the trailer (break neck) as far under the boat as possible then winch the last 2 metres, 5min done and dusted ready for a cold one.

that cold one catches me every time::S

i have a strong hand winch but i thought an electric winch would be easier off the sand, i have not had the opportunity to do that with this boat. pushing the trailer in as far as possible will definitely help(have not thought of that yet)

maybe i'll do a practice run or two to check how my hand winch holds up and the breakneck trailer works pushing it under the boat

tkei is reg!

Maaknlas,

Die manne is reg. Dit gaan nie werk nie. Sit wrywing by en 'n vrag vis ensomeer, dan gaan jy in elk geval "hand winch".

vraag ? Is die sleepwa 'n vaste sleepwa of breek-nek ?
