Will Drop shots work in Durban Bay??

I need info on this one as well please ! SERIOUSLY.
I also tried dropshotting in the harbour, but to no avail. Although it was very late we were at a spot right inside where the guys were catching Grunters very late at night. I didn't even get a nibble or anything....or maybe i used the wrong stuff....hey I dunno.
So if someone can help it will be gr8ly appreciated!!
DROPSHOT DOES WORK in the durban harbour.
a friend and I who started using this method of fishing together in Jan has had success in the bay. There are many factors to consider which can determine the outcome of dropshot.
1. tackle
2. location
3. tide/weather
We also had no results for a while and did some research, asked the pros and changed things. You got to have correct outfit for that method of fishing and the fish will come! It also takes alot of practice!

I use a shimano 2000 coffee grinder(very small reel) loaded with Berkley fire line +- 14 pounds , and then use very light drop-shot sinkers. It's the plastics that i battle with. I just about tried everything from big worms to small Jerk shads a.d nothing happened.

what rod do you use?
the most important thing from your tackle is your rod because it creates the action. fast action rods work great. they range from around R300 upwards for a good graphite rod. tell the sales guy it for dropshot!
I like your choice of line! fireline is bloody tough! u can reel out a monster with 14 pound FL BUT its abit heavy to begin with. FL is 1 of the thickest, i would put on 8 pound braid (kingfisher braid) to get the feel of it before i go with bigger expensive line The carbon leader DOES make a diff, use it. braid is very visible especially when if fades.
your reel is fine for now, fish will bite a lure if you using a R3000 shimmy or a R300 diawa.
Lures
i personally use gulp alive 4" minnow (emerald shiners), i fish in the afernoon going into the night so use darker colours at night (somehow that work!) BUT my mate uses Mc A products 4" minnows they also work. We initially started using small minnows but they never worked. i think 4" creates the best action + i think
big lure = big fish
If you wanna get knocks or a nice pull, do the following. (solunar/ wind depending)
go to silt canal on going out water and cast near/under the bouys. let your line sink then start reeling in and give some action every 3 rotations. gentle action. You are bound to hook something. I lost a huge fish 3 weeks ago, it took, ran and ended up snapping my braid (suffix 8 pound). I promise i could bearly hold my rod, almost fell off my boat,lol.

Boat you say? Maybe we could go together some time. One is never to old to learn. With Bass fishing in and around the PTA/Witbank area I knew exactly what to do when and where. But this is very new to me and hopefully I can crack it with an experienced "drop-shotter"

sorry for the late reply.
in dbn harbour the white lures work well for me. 3" to 5" slim lures.
spring tides always better. look for a rip in the water near channels or structure. just before dark is seriously the best time in the harbour.
with retrieval it depends what you targeting. you dont need anything heavier than 6lb fireline and 20lb leader.
