Good morning Sealiners,

Can anybody please provide information regarding the wild card used for access to fish in the reserve areas i.e. Cape Point etc. What does it cost? Where does one purchase the card? and How does it work?

Also confirm the relevant website

Your assistance in this regard much appreciated.

hi

the card you referring to is called a cape town wild card. it costs R80 and can be purchased at Boulders Penguin Colony there at sea fouth soema on your way to cape point if you planning on heading there. the card basically allows you 12 entries into the reserves for a year only.

the entrance fee at cape point is R75 and then you still need to purchase a fishing permit of R30 to transport fish out of the reserve so if you have the card then you just pay the R30 to fish.

i think you can purchase it at west lake info centre as well but not sure where that is.

boulders penguin colony is at sea fourth, turn into sea fourth's parking lot and then just before you get to the grass to walk down the steps to the beach, you'll see a road to the right, you unfortunately cant drive down there so park the car and walk about 300 m down that road and you wont miss it. just ask the cashier where to purchase a wild card and they'll show you.

hope this answers your question and maybe some other guys know a bit more than i do.

Hi. I actually renewed my wild card recently. One cannot get a wild card from Cape Storm outlets anymore. Apparently Velocity and San parks split meanining that you have to go direct to SAN parks. You have to get or renew your card at any SAN park office....ie in Cape Point, Boulders or at their office at Lakeside village (Behind Virgin active). A word of caution if you renew or get your card at Cape Point or Boulders you have to pay the entrance fee which you dont get back or it doesnt get credited to your card, so the best bet is at the Lakeside office. The best bet is to get the Cape Town residential 12 entry permit to Cape Point and Boulders..... not sure which other parks but you can ckeck that. It only costs R95 odd and you can take up to 4 adults and 2 children on it. Remember to bring a Telkom bill to prove that you are a resident of Cape Town. Remember the card only pays for entrance not fishing or crayfishing which is extra per year..not sure how much. But if I recall crayfishing is R500 odd/year. You can also get the yearly card which costs R305 which allows you into any park in the Cape, but you cannot take another person in with the card (you must pay extra for that). For a yealy wild card to anywhere in SA costs R340. The best bet is the 12 entry one. Go to http://www2.sanparks.org/assets/docs/wild-card/faq-wild-card-pricing.pdf for more info. Hope this helps. Ahhh so it must just be a Cape Point. I think its because the office at boulders is right at the entrance while at Cape Point is in the reserve

Good afternoon all,

Many thanks for your input. I will try the 12 entry permit, however no mention is made of such a permit  on the relevant website.

Cheers

go into the office in Wastlake and obtain a yearly permit. It gives you unlimited acces to all parks in the western cape. The cost is about R180.00. Anyway hope this helps.

They dont mention the 12 entry permit because they'd rather people spent more money. Just go there and ask they'll know what you talking about....just remember proof of residence and ID.
