Hi all,
Hope you are all enjoying the summer angling.
I was wondering. . .why is it that two guys sitting right next to each other, using the same bait, traces and dip combos don't catch the same amount of fish? With the one guy always beating the other, sometimes by more than double the amount of fish. Even after swopping places?

.. next time this happens - the guy catching all the fish should load the rig with the bait and see if it then makes a difference.

Technically speaking you should get different catch rates depending on distance, surface, structure, etc. If you have changed places and reversed roles to the finest detail the situation should remain with the fish continuing to come out on the side that produced the better results. The reason for the change is that both people are using different techniques and this is what counts at the end of the day.

It is also important to understand your strengths and weaknesses and sometime we just need to make those tough decisions and play golf instead of trying to embarass ourselves trying to be fishermen.

Either way have fun in whatever you decide...

Then I guess my brother-in-law should start playing golf. . . hehe.
I keep beating him everytime we go out. I am trying to figure out a way of getting his tempo up, but some-one once told me that the mind can play a large role.

one day someone told me that he does not use sunblock as it inteferes with his baity (on his hands) I said to him its a load of crap but did not believe me so I wanted to show him why an urban legend is just that. So instead of FX on the method I put on good old 40 factor sunscreen - 20 minutes later fish on ! lol

... but yeah - pheromones does have an influence - but would not wrack my brain about it

Small details such as hook size, the length of your hook link and even hook link material play a big role in this point I believe. Next time compare your traces and even the type of leaders you guys are using.

My dad and myself were fishing in the vaal river when we experience a similar situation where he was getting all the fish and I didn't even get a bite. So what we did is I used on of his rods on his spot and he used one of my rods on my spot. Suddenly, the rod of mine that he was using got fish and I still didn't get anything on his fishing rod.

So I would say it has a lot more to do with bait presentation and technique than the spot in the water. We usually fish about 2 meters apart from one another.
