WHY? the dark carp color

Went to the "Hoek" , Bloemhof over the weekend , had a blast ... caught plenty baber but the carp was really scarce . My wife caught a 2 kilo Carp  ,one question the carp that did come out was really dark in color , like almost black, can anyone tell me why , we caught about 30 babers and only 4 Carp

I had a similar experience when I was there, cats taking carp bait, it sure can get annoying, & the black carp.....so few in numbers....I wondered too what was going on?

The black carp is very common in the vaal system .

The black colour is due to the black clay  soil bottom , these carps are more frequent in the river systems.
