Guys

Haven't seen any threads lately of the upcomin ESA expo that starts 2morrow and ends on Sunday, held at Kyalami Race track. So I was just wondering if people didn't know about (unlikely with all of yous watching the ESA shows on DSTV) or there is some sinister plan to go there under cover... Anyhows, for those that didn't know the Entrance fee's are: R40/adult and R20/kid, dunno the times though.

So if you're not going the with the cloak and dagger outfit, perhaps we could be forming some sort of Sealine Posse!!!!

I'll be there on Sat from about 09:30 in the morn and will be taking the Kid and possibly The Pig (vlakvark) with.

Went to the ESA fishing expo this morning (Saturday), hoping to have a look at some surf rods. I was sorely disappointed with show. Not one surf rod to be seen. Spoke to some others who were there, and they felt the same as I did.

Sorry I wasted my time

Yup.... we've come to expect this sort of thing from ESA... also went this morning... you'd think members would get a discount on entrance... no such luck! Spent a grand total of 11.5 mins at the show...that was enough to cover everything, walking past all the stalls on offer... never saw a single rock/surf rod or reel. Some dropshot stuff, but no rock & surf or Deep sea tackle whatsoever.

Only tackle available was from Solaman's??? (never heard of them) not a single surf rod in site, nor reel!!!?????

They promised in their hype for this show all the latest ground-breaking tackle and equipment.....

The only good thing about ESA is their TV programme... the rest of it is an outright rip-off. Wasted R40. Bitterly disappointed, yet again...

This topic Makes me wanna put forward my point off view and its quite simple too..
Thank heavens for sealine!
Its free, interactive, every event we put together was always bigger and better than the previous one,we have the have the biggest new member joining figures, the biggest saltwater angling section in saltwater crazy south africa but most importantly we have formed a family off close members who are prepared to go beyond to assist newbies...these members are amongst others provincial and national anglers.. so this makes me wanna ask, shouldn't we support the medium (that is sealine) that has brought us all together on an unprecedented platform and do we take for granted what sealine has become for most off us? Lets all put the same commitment forward to the betterment off sealine...

Good day to all

I went through to the ESA expo on saturday (27 October) and am still highly dissapointed with the exhibitors (lack thereof). My understanding of the expo was to bring angling to us (innovations, all trade suppliers and so forth).

With all my excitement quickly dwindling as i passed through the entrance, seeing exhibitors selling / trying to sell (fitness equipment, rugs for the coffee table and no tackle guys - shimano, daiwa, berkley, rapala, Abu Garcia, Storm, Zoom, or any supplier resembling tackle). Once again a South African expo lets us all down, personally i think the organisers should visit a European or American expo ...... and see how it should be done.

Cheers.:

Hi guys
Being from Durban and could not enter the Show ..I duly intructed my Brother-in-law to go to the show with a shopping list of tackle knowning that normally show prices are cheaper...he phoned me yesterday at 2.00 and wanted to know if I had sent him to the right place/right date.
Thats was one big dissappointment....and please guys this is NOT ESA bashing.
When you promote something like this via the Media and you do not live up to your promises...it is false advertising and there are laws against that....I think ESA should really refund the cost of tickets to all those that attended.

Hi guys

I also went to the show and was really dissapointed with the stall holders. I arrived with a virgin credit card and was ready to abuse it but had to go away very disaapointed with what I bought (my bank manager was probably extatic). I think that the fishing shops really let themselves down as Solomons was doing a roaring trade. Reefman, I certainly saw surf rods and reels and there was tons of deepsea goodies. Notwithstanding that, I would have thougfht that there would be a mass of éxibitors selling their wares particularly the sponsors of the ESA guys, like kingfisher, daiwa and assasin.

I went to two of the lectures, one done by Abel and the other by raymond and they werre absolutely brilliant, perhaps you guys should have gone as it certainly made up for the lack of fishing goodies for sale.

In defence of the ESA guys (as most of you like to have a go at them), they cant force the shops and suppliers to go to the expo if they dont want to attend.   '

For me the lectures made up for the lack of stalls and I will just have to go and get what I need in the next few weeks from our local tackle shop.

Hallo to all big and small

Yes I was also at the show (Sunday). Yes I was also very disappointed in the quality and quantity of the stalls. With the December holidays coming up I thought that this will be a good time to stock up the shortages in my tackle box. Solomons was the only stall with a variety of equipment, but as they are close to me I visit them quit often.

On the other hand ( as Naas Botha will say ) on a more positive note I spoke to members of the ESA team, Abel,Raymond, Caroline and Mark and found them to be very friendly and cooperative. I never once felt that they wanted to end the conversation or that they had other things to attend to. Abel and Caroline spent quit a while with Michele and myself.
But alas I went home with nothing new to add to my tackle.
Lets hope that they take these remarks as positive criticism
and use that for further shows. ( If I am not mistaken this was the first )

As far as the entrance fee goes a bit steep steep for a 20 min walk around.( excluding my chat time with ESA )

Hi Guys

After all the hype and media coverage and the website

"The Fishing Mania Expo, has been created to offer all those sharing the common interest of fishing, the platform to gather, exchange information, explore new products, discover new methods, win prizes, purchase new equipment and generally to enjoy an entertaining experience in a stimulating environment.

An extensive marketing campaign has been designed, to attract a targeted audience to ensure, that exhibitors gain maximum benefit from their participation.  We would like to showcase the best and the latest in  - rods, reels, boats, outboard motors, camping equipment, campers, caravans, resorts, clothing and all the other accessories that contribute to enhance this amazing pastime.  We aim to attract at least 450 quality exhibitors to this event.
"

R80 bucks later (Yes dragged the missus with) I was sorely disappointed matter of fact I was disgusted. I went there hoping to see new Rock and Surf Tackle and maybe get a glimpse of the New Kingfisher HMG. I am leaving for Jefferies on Wednesday and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to stock up on some stuff that I need needless to the only money I spent was the R80 bucks to get in and well even the missus was not amused with the show.

So ESA Guys it was nice seeing and chatting to you but the SHOW was a disaster ... the presentations you guys had great as I understand and thats great but what happened to "We would like to showcase the best and the latest in  - rods, reels, boats, outboard motors  etc. "

the only Rock and surf rods I saw was Raymonds Assassin fishing rods.... Come on guys ....
