What weight range? If you are looking for something under 25lbs the X-tools is great. The Rapala's hook doesn't work that well.

I like the X-tools, it has a lip grip and it floats. And you can't lose it. The colors are wild. Get it at Fishing Specialist. Above 25lbs i would guess a good Salter scale or something similar.

Walt, I have a Berkley digital scale for under 23kg. Nice and flat, fits into tackle box nicely. Works quite well but they're pricey... bought mine a few years ago, dunno what they cost now... Also have a Salter lip grip scale, but it's dodgy....

Depends on what you want to spend.
Big Catch sell a really nice scale. It's just over R1000.00.
Goes to 100kg or just over.

Hi Walt, why do you want to weigh your bigger catches, for everything over 25 - 30 kgs you need a  helper to lift it and/or to read the dial, if it not digital. Measuring, and converting to the ORI  or SASAA conversion chart is the way to go. It is easier on the fish and much faster, do 2 or 3 kgs in a case like this make a difference ?

Thanx guys for the info. With Edibles,a scale could make it far more interesting in beating one's PB.Recently caught some Cob,and 2 were similar in size. But,one was male other female and male was definitely far bulkier around entire body & there was a definite difference in weight. Also, caught Cob in 2 different locations, and differed in size strangely enough.Maybe just coincidence,For Sharks, tables are a definite must,I agree.I just believe in being specific & wouldn't want to be questioned on how i attained fish's weight & would like to offer authenticity.I've seen some pics on site and some just don't seem to look anywhere near the weights given.

I'm looking for a dependable lip grip (boga grip), with or without the scale, as long as it won't slip. I have a cheapie, but as soon as the fish are "lipped" and struggle a bit, it tends to lose it's grip..... with sometimes catastrophic results. Can you please comment on the "X-tool's" dependability and price?

Also, if there are other recommendable brands available, please advise.

Thanx

when we still used scales to weigh fish in competitions we had to use salter scales as they were the most acurate, i still have mine and they work well after 5 years!

The X-tools has a reasonable grip. I held a couple of reasonable fish with it. Keeping in mind it is only 25lbs. The Rapala scale has a very nice grip, but sometimes difficult to get the fish off the scale.
