Which 14" for Daiwa SL30?

Hi guys,

I browsed through previous posts but couldn't find a clear answer for this one.

Currently I use the reel on a blue marlin 12" (2-4) rod and I must say it is a beautiful combination. Lightweight and easy to use.

With this said I am now looking for a 14" to mate with the Daiwa SL30. The rod should also be light enough so that one can use it throughout the day without it breaking your back. Lastly I am (and will be) targeting edibles with this setup ie 0.4mm line, 4 oz (maybe 5 max) weight.

Last week I had a look at the L&F 14" shockwave but it felt very heavy (similar to my 14" BM 14/4-6).

Any ideas?

im no expert on this but dont u think the sl30 is a bit small for a 14" ? why dont u look at the l&f shockwave 13" ? its a 2 piece and i find it light . also think your line and sinker weight would pair up nice with this rod?

have to agree with you, a 13ft up to 13'6 would be more suitable for the sl30, the l&f 13ft shockwave 4pc would be ideal, extremely lightweight and economical

Hi guys,

Yes maybe you're right. Maybe it is foolish to try and use a 14" rod.

The 13" L&F rod, is it an hmg rod? Price maybe ±?

I also have a torium 30 on a blue marln 14" (4-6). This setup is okay but too heavy to fish for edibles the whole day, IMHO.

Was casting Sl30 with penn 14ft powerstick medium tip with a 4oz on soccer field. 100m easily. Was smooth. Lighter stick might be even better.

a HMG rod will be lite enough for your Sl30. I fished B\Blue Marlin HMG T53/6 with a Grandwave Z30 ,Grandwave X30 and Saltist 30 had no problems.

Yeah I saw a penn powerstick at sportmans w/house and was quite impress the light weigth of the rod. It was however a 13". There was no 14". I think it is definately an alternative. I dont really know penn equipment (apart from the old days of penn 49's :)) so I'm not to sure... Maybe some of the other members might be able to help?

alpha tackle 4-6 14ft or sensational angling 14ft 4-6 hmg both in the region of R2000+-. these a three piece.

waft pirate 3 piece 13ft 4-8 R4500 expensive but throws a country mile. unfortunate i cannot afford the waft pirate, so i chose the alpha tackle 14ft. It's a combonation of hmg graphite and carbon hmc. the rod has been reinforced for strength yet it is easy to cast.  atleast that was the design behing the rod. i cant wait for mine to come.

If you are set on a 14ft rod for eds the elbe and shock wave range are all 3 pice with light tips good hard working rods that just does what they are supose to.

If you get the chanse look at the shim 110h.
It is a 11ft rod that can cast a 3oz up to a 6oz comfortably and paired with your sl30 would work well together.

Good luck and let us know

Some oke on sealine have called this the ultimate edible setup pm Riaan the legend and ask him .Also look for a post from Mickey regarding these rods

This rod is about R2500, i sold mine for R1000 after dropping it from R1500 to R1100. I sold it as i got another rod from a friend and done the rod over. Also wanted to get the Shimano 110H, which i did. rated from 3oz up. It says 250gr which is roughly 8oz . i wouldn't throw nore than 6oz on the rod though. I have a 110H with a torium 14 which is i think slighlty smaller than a SL30. I used 5oz this weekend and i could cast as far as with my 14ft. Rod has a lot of backbone. But i wouldn't use in in the surf all the time. maybe to scratch aropund and from harbour walls, lagoons etc. But not for serious fish.

Remeber a Blue Marling G3 3piece is not the same as a T53 1 piece. pulling power and weight of the rods are different. T53 being lighter and more backbone. How much do u want to spend and what do u want 3 piece or 1 piece
