Where to fish in PE area

Hi All

I'm from Melkbosstrand visiting the children in Despatch for the week. New grandchild! Anyway, the women gave my son-in-law and I off to go fishing for a day. Thinking of Thursday (tomorrow). We don't know the fishing spots in PE area. Heard about Swartkops river mouth and area. Is it the place to go? Strand or rocks OK. As long as we might get something edible.

Any locals that can advise us? We'll appreciate it.

The river mouth to the left is good. There's a big hole there and a shortish cast. Can get Elf, Steenbras, kob etc. Reports a few weeks back about good sized Elf in the surf, also in the river.

Anywhere along the marine drive, past the varisty, is good for rock fishing. Blougat, Anchor and any deep hole you find should produce a fish. Musslecracker being caught here too.

Hi Pete

Thanks for response. Went yesterday, Friday 19th to river mouth and worked along beach to the left up to next ablutions. High tide was only 13:00 and little wind blowing from the left (?). Water felt colder than week ago.

Very little activity. Tried for cob, shad and grunter. I eventually opted to rather bait up for any cob that might pass by while son-in-law with lighter tackle targetted small fish. He caught large mullet (springer?) and smallest skate I have ever seen. ha ha. I used the mullet as live bait for garrick but no luck. To add insult to injury I eventually caught a bloody Toby on 7/0 hook meant for Cob!!!ha ha. We eventually tried the river itself on the houses' side. No luck either. Even tried with my fly rod but got hits by small fish that couldn't even swallow the small flies.

Anyway, mayby it was the wrong time of the day, the water was a bit cold and maybe the Boks will have better luck this afternoon bagging some "Lions"??

But I'll live to fish another day. Or as Arnold, alis Terminator said, "A'll be back!"

Maybe I'll come visiting during the summer.

fishing really not that bad..leerie run still on at the van stadens and gamtoos areas..around the swartkops area alot of grunter..mainly at night..the marine drive also produced some nice elf(up to 3 kg)..and some cracker when conditions were good..also some cob in the sundays surf to van der riets area over the last 2 weeks..friend of mine got a 10kg cracker at v d riets saturday..i got stuck into some nice grunter at st georges, landing 8..keeping 2 nice ones for the pot..the fish are there..depends on the wind..the moment we get some easterly winds..

I think I fished the day of my post, at the river mouth. Got a 38cm grunter first cast, put him back, nothing after.

Also heard about the cracker on the wildside in recent weeks and apparently some kob around. It is just into winter now and September is when all species hot up again.
