Hi guys, Uk fisherman here, coming over to capetown in november to do some south african fishing, never been there b4 but willing to give it a bash, will make a pleasant change from catching conger eel, cod, pollock and thornback rays ! so what can i expect to catch from the coast at cape town, between muizenburg and kalk bay, saw it on google earth and said to myself, hey steve get ur butt over there and try those rocky venues and the beeches. so any info as to what bait down to what species of fish and tackle will be great !! hope to see a few of u guys on the marks and maybe even have a little friendly competition !!

tight lines to you all.

hi tacklemart

just a rough idea for what you asked,at muizenberg itself theres a place called surfers corner and here at low tide you can pump blood/lug worm, but be careful coz.sometimes behind the third breaker theres huge white sharks cruising ,fishing from the rocks you can catch anything from white steenbras to stumpnose(think you guys call it gilthead bream) to name 2 species, theres others like blacktail and galjoen(s.a national fish)kob etc.,at kalk bay that time of year you could get chokka squid and kob at night gets a bit full though, further towards strand the guys target huge ragged tooth sharks and bronze whalers and sometimes get picked up by great whites, but thats a touchy subject here and also big rays, light to medium tackle  should be ok for targetting edibles, heres some pics of what you can expect

Wow !! Thanks very much for the info flippy ! geez i cant wait to have a go at catching those species you named, not to sure about the big bloody sharks though ! never encounterd anything like that, our shark family species around the welsh coast where i live consists of TOPE, SPURDOG, SMOOTH HOUNDS, AND THE STARRY VARIETY, AND BILL HUSS, AND DOG FISH, PLUS THE SMALL EYED RAY AND THRORNBACK RAY AND THE BLONDE RAY, during the winter we fish for cod and conger eel, both very good eating, and a conger off the beech can reach 60lb plus if ur lucky. the fish pic you showed looked like a bream to me, is that correct? but some of the fish you mentioned are totally new to me and i cant wait to give it go !! and if i like it i'm staying lol by the way if you need any info on tackle let me know as i own a tackle shop here.

the pic enclosed is a cod

Tight lines matey.

If you are coming to Cape Town, you simply must add a bronze whaler to your species list. Just be careful, you are jesting about staying, but after a bronzie you really are going to consider it! :D
