When hooks let you down...

Got to the short pier at about 5h20 this morning with a bundle of hope in the one pocket and a 3" berkley watermelon pearl (with scales ) on my jighead:temp:

Started casting about halfway up the pier. Nothing.. just nothing. Alton showed up and also had nothing interested in his lure. We decided to move up the pier on the inside of the harbour. And it just went bananas!:dban:

First cast, torpedo scad, second cast ..... the biggest kingy i ever hooked!! The fight was on and the kingy did its best to get me cut of by swimming around the pier, I increased the drag and did my best to turn the fish before the braid touched the pier^^... At the last moment the fish turned and i felt the adrenalin pump, i managed to get the kingy past the piers corner increasing my chances of landing this beauty drastically:woohoo.

I see a flash of silver in the water about the size of a small whale :fst:( ag ok, probably 4kg and up) and then it happened, my line went limp, my heart dropped into the water and tears filled my eyes:cry1. I reeled in  the line and found that the hook straightened!!

It was a mustad hook/jighead:swear. Now let this be a lesson, it was only 5.5kg braid (not fireline) and a cheap 2500 Shimano Slade. The hook should not have opened.:X

To rub salt into my wounds, the next fish on was even bigger and pulled me around the pier, the moment the braid touched the pier .... tink and all was lost. We did not pick up any takes after that.

Ja, I told you to use those custom bait owner jigheads.

Don't worry Zoema:hyst:, I'm sure you'll be fine after a shower:lol:1
