Hi all!

We'll be visiting the South Coast in July, and I was wondering which species I could expect to encounter, and what tactics to try out for this time of year.

C'mon all you locals - let's have some answers please!!

Ta,

Mike

Well havent been on the south coast for a while.... Port Edward, Margate..... Shad, Garrick, Grunter, Stumps, followed by the usual suspects the big nunu's . Follow the sard report rather n if your drivin along the coast look to the sky and if you find the brids flocking, feeding you must be quick to get down on the beach n get in on the action.....

This wat happend to us some years back drivin to Port Edward the action was @ Hibberdene ... Lucky enuff we wer wid a Landrover stopped of the freeway asked a local how to get onto the beach which he had taken us all the way down he fished wid us caught our limit saved more on time and fuel . Had a great time gettin down the embankment !LOL . All iN ALL a brilliant trip down South with catches of shad, garrick , shoal stumps odd cray in between.

Just monitor the sard report buddy and if the chase is on ur def gonna strike it good. Good luck

Thanks, Guys!

Any particular spots to try out? Where are the locals fishing? Need to get hold of one of them and spend a few days in the surf!

@buxj Sorry to hear about your loss.( My boys are using 6lb fireline on their 6ft Daiwa Megaforce rods, and I have 10lb on a 7ft L&F MH rod. Very nice setups. I also carry a 9ft Berkley Air XH with 14lb on a Daiwa Exceller - TOO nice.

@Jude Thanks for the info, mate. Will follow sard rep.

Mtwalume, ask the locals where Compound is. If you don't get bit sell your stuff. Fish in the AM. 4-9. Pumula where the river goes into the sea and the launch facilities are, anywhere on those rocks. To be honest any tackle works if the sards are around.

We're apparently staying right near Pumula! Will give a full report when we get back!

Hope we get some!

Mike
Give 'em hell. Get some for me. You might want to try Stiebel rocks at Umzumbe but beware. The fishing is fantastic but the waves that come over the highest point can wash you away. Check it out carefully, very carefully. The locals are a good indicator, mimic them. I've seen some big Kingies come out there. Good luck.

Is the 10lb fireline really much quieter than the 14lb?

I have 14lb on a Slade 2500 and dislike the noise and "grating" sound/feel it makes through the guides. Have been contemplating going back to mono for this reason, but maybe I should try the 10lb first?

Thanks

ps sorry to hijack the thread, but if I have to contribute  - shad, shad and more shad! (plus blacktail around rocks)

Buxj. Thanks. 14lb is a bit heavy on the Slade 2500. My boys have 8 lb fireline on theirs, and it's quite smooth. However, braid will always be 'rougher' than mono. Don't worry about it. Most modern gear is braid-proof.

FYI

It's almost time for the little fishies to appear.

If you follow the local newspapers u'll hear that they are way down south on the Trankei side, but slowly making there way up the coastline.

Apparently the water is still a bit to warm for them, but let's wait and see.

If all goes well they would be here in about 2 weeks time.

THEN ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE !!!!!!!
