Can anyone tell me what reel this is, how old it is and how much would it be worth today? Any info would be most helpful.

I think it is one of their entry level reels - calais or something - a while back they were like R250

Yip it’s a Crestfire and not worth anything... the Calais is the top of the range baitcaster in the Shimano stable and costs over R6,000 now...

K robfisher just cuz u get sponsored from Daiwa doesnt mean that reel is not worth anything its still a good reel !

People that dont get free fishing equipment appreciate their tackle allot more :p

I know the crestfire is one of shimano's entry level reels, but i must say its very good quality reel and no im not saying its very good, its just a reel that will last forever!!!Trust me on this!!Wouldnt buy one again as you do feel the quality isnt close to a reel thats over R800(when it comes to casting and retreiving etc.)But for someone with a budget problem like me and thats starting off, i think its one good reel.

Nope that’s not quite true Valrath… and so far I have only got two of my sponsored rods and reels… my mainstay tackle is still my Shimano Cumara’s and Daiwa Steez’s that I paid for with my own hard earned cash Boet. And I appreciate them more than you would know... I worked hard for my money and everytime I pick up a Cumara/Steez combo I face Mecca and say thanks!

And I stand by the rating on the Crestfire… it is useless! I know I had three of them when I started.

Get your facts straight Valrath, if you don't know what you are talking about it is better to keep quiet. Uninformed personal statements are likely to land you in hot water. Don't come to a gunfight with a knife........ know what I mean? The crestfire is not a reel that is going to help you learn how to cast, it is rough and not responsive, if you are set on getting an entry level reel, try the cruxis, I think they retail for about R750, it is a lot of reel for the money. (sorry for jumping between the two threads, but they are both relevant to each other.)

@ Ryan..... send the calais boet, I'll take everyone you can get for R250! I've only got 1 and it's my fave reel, but if I wanted another, I'd probably have to re-bond my house!!!!::balance:
