What props do i need?

HI Guys,

i am currently running standard props on my two 60 hp mariners 1996 pushing my 5.5 deep v gemini, normally with 3 heavy dudes on top. I am happy with top speed 32 knots on a flat day but i am taking her up to Sodwana at the end of the year and want more oomph in the bottom range as i will be carrying 4 divers with kit and think i need more power to get onto planing speed quicker. Also she struggled last year when pulling out my brother on skies(100kg). I told him it was his skiing ability but more power should do as i also want to ski sometimes(125kg)

What props to get as a second pair?

I don't mind losing top end as i like a comfortable ride at sea anyway (22Knts is more than enough and fuel efficient)

rory i am on 13p aluminium 3 blade props now.

How does going lower effect gearbox or engine revs?

I don' t want to buy and then i am not happy, would anyone who has played around with props give me some info i could learn from?

What are your motors revving up to at the moment should be 5500rpm when running flat out

if you lower your pitch you will pick up torque and loose top end would go down to 12 as 13 are quiet high for you rig my small boat has 11 pitch props for surf launching on 50hp yammies

thanks for the info rory,

i am going to phone around too see if someone could borrow me their 11's or 12's so i can feel the difference on my boat.

You are right i run at 5500 rpm when flat out. i need spare props anyway but would like to buy the right set for the purpose. In cape town i can run the 13's as we always launch at a harbour and waves aren't an issue so we come buy with what we have easily even fully laden with divers and full scuba kit.
