Hi there, I have Yamaha F70s with 15 pitch props on my Seacat 16.The boat takes a while to get onto plane, and just makes plane on 1 motor.Any suggestions?

I have just bought a set of 13pitch props, also had 15's, did not test it jet.

I want to spare it for Struisbaai and not risk damage it at Kleinmond.

I received advice from and old outboard expert. Will let you now in 2012.

Would have thought that 15's would be fine on a 16 footer!
But obviously not, what are your rpm's at WOT?
I think that they rev out at 6300rpm's so if your not getting that then you can go down a pitch or 2 I think that 13's sound better for your application.

You should get hold of White Knight,he has a seacat 565 running 2 x 70 Yammie 4 strokes I know he is very happy with his boat.

Howsit, very interested to hear you are not getting onto a plane quickly with a 16ft seacat with 15's?? I was actually thinking about going to 15's and requested some input recently on another site regarding this whole prop pitch issue. I have 14's on my boat (seacat 565 with F70's) and she jumps onto the plane. I can redline her though to 6300 rpms' and felt that the top speed was maybe a bit low round 30 knots?

Some feedback suggested 14's were too low and I should go 15's, but based on your situation I am not so sure anymore?

In principle I am very happy with my boats performance but after one or 2 comments thought I would enquire further. I will start a Seacat 565 owner thread for input as I know there are a quite a few guys out there with this boat.

cheers

30 Knots is fast enough, because you cannot do that speed on any water.

If you get on the plane quickly, it is a bonus.

The new 13pitch props better on my boat!

Can plane with one motor, 11.5knots, not yet full trottle!

Thanks, appreciate the feedback.Tested the boat at Port Alfred over December.Runs like a dream at the coast at 6300 revs.Got back from Bronkies dam here in Pretoria today, but only manage 5700 revs max.Altitude makes a big difference.
