I will be going to Natal South coast July or September school holidays. What lures do I need to get to use for spinning and what can I expect to catch?

Thank you.please

Does not seem like anybody wants to give advice. No problem, will work on trial and error!

I thought people share and help.

Take a good selection of jigheads: 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 and 1 ounce with jerkbaits in 3 and 5 inch. A few GT icecreams and a few spoons. GT icecreams if you're at a spot that looks good for garrick and you need more distance than the plastics allow and spoons for everything else when you need more distance. I would think that plastics would be the first choice though. Go really small if you're having little success. 1/8 ounce 1/0 jigs with 3" minnows or Gulp Worm. Good luck!

Bennie, I dont know cause I have never fished on the South coast. I have always fished up North, St Lucia.

I have posted my kit I got for my birthday a year ago and still have not used it, that is why I am asking advice.

Thanks to you and Dingleberry for advice so far.

July = sardine season. Definitely pack some spoons as early mornings can produce some good catches, kingfish, Garrick, Shad etc.

September i'd pack in poppers for the Garrick that are around.

What spoons and what poppers and weights. My rods are both 3 oz tips. Will be taking my Posseiden XH and saltist 50 as well.

1 or 2 Chase bullet spoons
1 or 2 GT Icecreams.
1 or 2 Ondas from Kingfisher.

That is all you need really! We do have decent tackle shops here so you can always nip in one afternoon.

My wife bought me the kit for my birthday because I wanted to start spinning. I have not used it for over a year and now want to try it when we go on holiday.

This is all very new to me as I know r&s fishing. I did a lot of kitefishing and now want to sell the kite kit complete. I only want to R&S and start with spinning. I like a challenge and really want to try it. There is another post with my kit, it is a Shimano Nexave 6000 FA reel, L&F Shockwave 10 ft 3 oz, Adrenalin 10ft Shad Master 3 oz also. I need to put line on but dont know what and I dont want too expensive as I will only go fishing once or twice a year.

Thanks.

Hi, I use braid on my spinning setup, there is a lot of makes of braid,

gatorbraid 20lbs will do the trick, it comes in a 300meter roll. You can use normal line as backing.

Hope this helps

Something like an Aubry plug is also nice. The traditional ones are made from wood and require less work to keep them up.

I believe poppers in the surf is good, but not necessary and hard work. I can't throw a popper all day.
