What line to use

Hello All!

I would like to buy new line for my carp reels. I am currently using a yellow, 8lbs line maybe better suited for salt water fishing.

My thoughts are that i want a dark colour, brown maybe, around the 12 lbs, low memory and fast sinking.

Am I on the right track? and if not please help me out.
I have asked at 2 different fishing shops in the boksburg area, and have not got a commited answer. "its up to your prefernce" im told. SO FRUSTRATING!!

Secondly, im using a 12 lbs braided leader (dark colour, rig is made with this) and is only really used to make up the rig. Again is this correct.

I've blanked the last 5 times i've been out. getting frustrated.

looking forward to your answers

hey man,

generally 5-7lbs 0.16-0.21mm is used mainly for distance casting and competition

i used to use double x platinum or platinum plus, ledgend line
which is a clear to white or opaque line and have had not issues with thus far -

i use a yellow .025 usually when i fish at night and when i fish some snaggy situations mainly can see whats going on at night?

i havent found it to give me less bites?

i use a 17lbs .30mm leader for casting

i dont think that a brown line will be a bad choice

i have now changed to an awa shima hypercast line thats an olive color?

dunno if that helps at all?

ps where are u fishing? maybe there are other reasons that your blanking
that has nothing to do with you line?

Hello DelwynV,

Thanks for the reply.
I got into carp fishing when i stayed on a farm near Nelspruit. No one fished there, so the fish were easy to catch. Nothing to it at all.

I've been to Nigel Dam 4 or 5 times and even drove out to Footloose. Blanked!!

I managed to catch 3 small carp under 1kg when were were out at Rietvlei dam, but thats the whole weekend 48 hours and everyone around me was busy landing.

Planning to go to Island Shores vaal on Saturday, got myself a tube and am planning to take lines out 150 to 200m or so.

Going to buy more dips after work today and taking your advise on the line.
