This speer fisher thinks it is cool to shoot Bass and Kurper with a speergun.

Surely it must be illegal... And by looking at the area he stays it cant be that he is hungry!

I'm sorry but i still fail to see how we know they were shot with a spear gun....maybe you guys can see something i cant?

I don't see evidence that they were speared. But if they were, I have no problem with the bass being speared. Invasive aliens shouldn't be protected anyway. As for the kurper, is there an angling bag limit or season for them? Is it wrong to spear within your bag limit if it is ok to keep a certain number caught on rod and line?

Facebook is flooded with this guys vis and pics. Fish were speared. I am upset to see the male breeding coloured blues laying there. Loskop is a specie haven and one of few places with pure strain blues. I'm relatively sure the oak will pay for this if looking at the reaction on FB.

I think it can be debated as to whether it should be illegal to use a speargun on invasive alien species such as bass and carp (or barbel in the Western Cape) for example. I personally wouldn't have a problem with it.

Hy het 'n permit so dit was wettig. Wat wel onwettig was is dat die permit slegs 6 vis per dag toelaat en nie 17 nie

Volgens sy permit mag hy nie in natuur reservate spear nie, so dit was wel onwettig.

Of bass uitheems is of nie maak nie saak nie. As hy vir hulle hengel (met 'n visstok) en dan hou is dit wettig, maar die manier hoe hy hulle uithaal is onwettig (volgens SY EIE permit).

Agree. If its Illegal, then it's illegal. Throw the book at him. However, it can be debated as to whether it SHOULD be illegal. Should we be protecting invasive species? Is there genuine conservation value in doing this? I am personally less interested in whether spearing is legal or not, but more interested in why it is illegal to spear invasive alien species. It seems the law is there to protect the fishery rather than the environment and this is a problem for me.

Take for the pot is what comes to my mind. I would release non eds in all situations. Spearing does not allow for release so in my opinion this is just bloody mindedness.
