What gun to get?

Hi all Spear O's...

I am once again taking up what I have put away for too long and going to start spearing again... I am not going to go big and go out and hunt Tuna/Yellowtail and such just Stumpnose/Galjoen etc....so was thinking...What gun should I be getting myself?.....

Any help with this will be great as I am home on the 22nd..and want to hit the water by the 24th or so..

Firstly: welcome back to the joys of spearfishing

Try out the Rabitech Stealth Railgun 90cm, its probable the best value for money at the moment, Rabithech has a store in Kuilsriver and Louise is very helpful and give sthe best advice I have recieved in my spearfishing "career" so far.

A 1m reel-gun for that application is your best bet.If the vis is down to around 2m most of the time in the area you dive,a 90cm may be better.

You can always use a drop weight for your buoy and line for the fish.

I also vouch for the Rabitech Stealth. I've been diving with mine for years and never experience problems with the trigger mechanism (which happened with another brand).

Howdy,

I would recommend a 1m or 1.1m. This gives you versatility to be able to shoot and land big Cracker or yellowtail that you may bump into (always be prepared is my motto)
Also on days when the water is cleaner and you require a little more distance you won't be sorry.

Cracker will have to be very brave to take on that water although a few smaller ones has been shot in Cape Town
