What 20lb braid should i use on a shimano 4000 coffiegrinder???

the mono backing is there so that the braid doesn't slip. Haven't casted poppers, but have casted small spoons, and it works perfect.

My wifes entire setup: Daiwa Megaforce 7' med, fast action rod, Shimano Slade 2500B; 10LB KF mono backing & 150m 12lb KF casting braid. 15 - 20lb mono/flouro leader.

I use a 5 turn surgeon knot to connect 1 meter leader to fireline and this knot feels very strong and quick to tie. Any reason why this is not that popular?

I always used to use the surgeon's knot and never had a problem with breakages - it is also easy to tie. I now use a modified (?) albright knot as it is also easy to tie while bobbing around on the sea and it ties slimmer than the surgeon's. With regards to leader length, one of the posts mentioned a short leader so that the knot never gets wound or casted through the guides. This advice is spot on. Also, to tie the fireline directly to the spool using a uni knot. Only triple the loop formed once the uni is tied. This will put an end to any slippage.

I am also very happy with the kingfisher casting braid and i highly reccomend it. As for the reason that you use mono backing, the rolls of kingfisher is 150m and that would not fill a 4000 size reel. In that case you put mono on as backing because no

1. You want to fish with a full spool (casting distance and retrival rate) and

2.Mono is cheap to put on as backing

3. You will seldom if ever use more than your 150meter of braid.

howzit mate i got a daiwa exceller 4500 which is filled with 20lb berkley fireline crystal approx 270m works great for dropshot or bait fishing off the boat
