Weekend fishing

This weekend we went fishing and although the conditions were not perfect, we still managed to catch some great fish.:wfish

 

Everyone warned us about the eastern wind, and how bad it gets when its blowing but you always think that people are exagerating. Well, I must admit that its bad, very bad! On Saturdy this wind started blowing at about 10 am, which was quite enjoyable at first because its nice and warm. But at 1 o'clock we could hardly stand and we were getting sandblasted. At 1 pm we left for home and settled for the rugby.

Dis mos hoe 'n galjoen moet lyk!! Those were my words when I saw it.. By the way, its my pb., 1.6 kg.

I always catch galjoen on white mussel and steenbras normally on octopus leg or white mussel and then some days they even bite on sardine. They love crayfish (me too), so we add a small piece of that onto our normal bait. The steenbra that Simen caught was on white mussel..

Galjoen is usually caught on either white mussel or red bait. White mussel being the most used.

Steenbra, as Sarah explained loves octopus. White mussel also a favourite. The bigger guys, when the water is not very clear take on a inside out sardine.

Crayfish is a deadly bait, but also tends to attract all the small fish close to your bait. again only used in off colour water.

where i am from,tis`nt very popular steenbrass area unless we go  36 k`s down the road,never the less apparantly they do mingle around here this month and i am trying to catch one or more.we can find  sand mussel a ways walk  down the beach,and pink prawn as well.occy is plentifull off the rocks as well as redbait.galjoen are caught here mostly on redbait probably because it is more rocky here.thanks for your tips on the bait.should i try for steenbrass at the spot where the white mussel are found or not neccessarily so ?
