Caught a 3.4kg Zebra at Umkomaas - was quite happy, it was my first :)

Light tackle was used, chokka blob bait fishing about 120m out in some nice working water.

Yeah I have several - just reluctant to upload because I don't want to get torn apart because the fish was kept to eat at a family get together on Saturday.

I will PM you a link :) Stunning little fish, I must admit it tastes just as good if not better than a bronze bream!

also hooked on something big but unfortunately my hooked got straightend!

i jus want to ask any deep sea "fundi" i this site is it absolutely neccesary to use a 1 kilo sinker???

Only if fishing very deep and the currents are very strong.

In other words use as heavy as is necessary to get your bait to the target.

Depends what depth you fish for sure, also what tackle you using, if you using nylon or braid, or how the current is running, and also how strong you feeling on the day, if you use to much of a light sinker and the current is running you might end up flying kites..... ::H

Just for interest I sent a fishms on Zebra, results as follows:
Fishms works as follows, send an sms with the fish name to 079 499 8795. It sends back an sms with info on the fish in question. I use it all the time when buying or catching fish.

Zebra.
Status: RED.
Not for sale. Recreational species only (minimum size: 30cm, bag limit:5). Vulnerable due to low abundance and high residency.

That means that Overwind was technically within his rights to keep the fish for consumption. So why would we tear him apart?

LL

ps POST the pic

Hi guys

I think it is really sad whea guy like Overwind feels like he would be torn for keeping a non-endangered fish on this forum.

Whilst we are all conservation minded we need to allow for the fact that some members will need to keep fish because they like to eat it. And I think any critism on this forum must be based on FACT and not emotion.
