WEAKENED MONO

Hi all

I bought some new line recently - 13kg I won't mention the brand for now. after 2 outings (saltwater, off a boat - i.e. no sand, rock, etc.) this line breaks when tying any knot other than a bimini twist into it.

I checked the unused line from the spool left in my cupboard and this is as strong as it should be. Yet the used line breaks like cotton with just a single overhand knot in it. I've tried different ways of lube-ing (lubing?) the knots as well - saliva, water, even spray & cook but they all cause the line to snap at the knot with probably less than 2kg tension.

I can't understand it - who has any ideas? I rinse everything off after use with fresh water as well.

The shop said they would look at it and possibly replace, but wtf?

Put a figure 8 knot onto a big hook and tie the other end to something solid and do a pull test with a scale...it may not be accurate but it will give u an idea..

maybe the wrong size printed on the spool?

i had a similar prob bfo with perlon line(the dark blue one). very strong wen its a staight piece....put a knot and it snaps like cotton. it was that day that i learnt wat was the meaning of knot strenght
