We went to the R50 dam on Sunday and to spite the hectic wind we got a total of 5 carps. Not huge, but between 1.5 and 3kgs each. I cought 2, hubby got 2 and my 3yr old girl got 1.

Was lots of fun after giving up provincial angling 10yrs ago.

We we're using my fave combo-@lain doough on a rietvlei with cine 1 on top hook and cine 2 on bottom. Fx and ebony on the ball dusted with sa powder.
This combo worked quite well cause I lost 3 (getting into the habit of playing a fish again).
Rods never quite for more than 15mins.
We were also only there from 11h00 to 4h00.

Welcome Jackie! Good to hear you can still beat the competition(Hubby) lol! Any interest in angling competitively again?

Cine1 and Cine2? Now that is dips not a lot of guys mention a lot these days. If I remember correctly they just differ in colour?

Dunno if I want to do competitively again. Too much politics...

Hi All

I stay 5 minutes’ drive from there and also fished for Central Gauteng for a while. The R50 dam can be difficult at times but also very productive.

And as to the politics in provincial angling - - - -NO REPLY!!!

Firstly, :welcomesea: Jackie. And congrats on the 5 fish.

Secondly, I have fished this dam many times. This dam produces some lovely carp but this dam can also be a very difficult dam at times. What I found interesting is that late afternoon, from 15h00 onwards the fish are out and about feeding. Sweet dips and baits work well also.

Just my 2c worth :)

The upside of this venue is surely the comfort of a safe and clean area with toilets, a braai and a small lapa for each "peg". Great for a family day out.

I have never fished this place and blanked. It always produces fish. Even caught barbel on two occassions while going for carp.

Always caught well on Tjop-tjop with TCP and more recently with Tjop-tjop/Quatrro bait spray and Devilsfork bait spray.

Seeing that you were out of angling for so long :) -
Tjop-tjop = pineapple base
Quattro = fruit mix
Devilsfork = garlic/almond
