We dropped the muddie in the same location as the bait that kept me busy until 03H00 the previous night and two carp baits as above on different locations. After the first nights fiasco I was getting ready for a long wait! So I poured a nice long "met eish ja!" and settled in.
Exactly one hour after dropping the baits, the ratchet on the Alvey the muddie was on started "tic tic", nothing serious, just an indication something was happening. I waited as the cat started scaling the muddie and got reasdy for the pick-up and run.
This happened 30 minutes later as the cat swallowed the bait and realised something was wrong and the circle hook penetrated the corner of his mouth.
The ratched sounded like music to my ears!!
After the cat took a sizable amount of line I lifted the rod and applied pressure as I new the hook would be set in the corner of the mouth.
Then nothing!! I started realing and the fight was on again! Then nothing, oh no I thought he has spat the bait out! then back on! The cat came easily towards the side and as it ot close to the side I prepared myself for a strong change in tactics as I thought he would take of we he realised he was close to the side.
this did not happen and I managed to lift his head clear of the water as I was on a bit of an embankment.
Dissapointment!! a small cat! smaller than the one my son had caught earlier on the hair rig!
