Hi fish fun

I worked at the hotel for about 2.5 years. I mostly only fished for eds. The spots that used to produce for me was in front of the hotel=kob, silver steenbras, pig nose and blue fish. Halfway rocks on a low tide. The flat shelves towards the Mitford during low tide. If you walk all the way down the beach to high rocks there are some great spots near the light house. I have caught all the above mentioned fish at these various spots.

Going to the cliffs is not for someone who has never fished the area before and should only be attempted with a seasoned Morgan bay cliff fisherman. Those cuffs are dangerous so don't get wind gat with them. Over the last cliff the is a steep hill you can get down easily on a path. There are some awesome spots down there. Carrying a big fish back up that hill is calf breaking stuff.

Double mouth is an excellent area to fish and kei mouth has some decent spots like duck pond.

As far as bait goes the is quite a bit of red bait at a few of these spots I have mentioned. You can pump sand prawns in the river at the caravan park and get mud prawns at the kei river.

The best wind is the west which warms the water up and brings the fish on the bite. The east makes the water flat, brown and dirty. Expect plenty sand share and barbel with an occasional kob when this happens.

Mullet can be caught in the river in front of the caravan park. A good spot for putting a live mullet out at night is just past halfway rocks. Caught plenty cob there.

Good luck and enjoy Morgan bay it's an awesome place.
