Waypoint / marks for Inhanssoro Mozambique

Hi guys,

I'm off to Inhanssoro on the 12 September 2013 for two weeks. Never fished from here before. If anyone has any offshore (Trolling) waypoints for me. I'll keep them to myself. I am still a newbie so I do not have any marks to trade but promise if I do get then I will give them to whoever helps me.

Please feel free to offer any other advise you might have about the area as well.

thanks

Marks for this area are like white gold..... the Charter operators depend on them remaining "classified" and for a local ski-boat angler to share their "prime" marks would cost arms, legs and kidneys!

There is an easy way!!!! Look at your charts for the area, from east of Bazaruto head North (on the contour line of your choice) all the way past 25 mile reef (a long troll) and work that contour ........ you will catch fish!

Keep an eye on your sounder, and if you go over any interesting bottom structure - Mark it! That is where those "Magic Marks" come from....

Cheers, RB

Thanks royboy. I will do that. Any chance you know how much fuel I would use for that trip. (launching from Inhassoro to 25 mile reef) I have twin 60hp 4 stroke yamaha's on 5.2m rib.

Yup - for an average day you will burn 120-150l per day. That is pretty much what usage is on a 22' Cat running Suzuki 140's........ I would guess you will be in for 110-120l per day - on a best guess basis. Conditions will influence fuel burn, so maybe budget on 130 per day?

Hi Guys. After going up to the Bazaruto Islands and going out to where I was told I would easy find 25 mile reef I found it not so easy to find on the sonar. It is very easy to be 2 to 3 km out. I have attached a screen shot of my Garmin chart showing a Kidney shaped change in depth which I thought was 25 mile reef.

Man I trolled up and down west and east but I had this nagging feeling that I was not on the reef. At the time I was not to concerned as we were catching fish.
When I got home I started doing some more research. See the below screen shot of a Navionics map which shows a some what different pic. I have circled a change in depth in red which runs South to North about 6-7 km further east of the kidney shaped "reef" mentioned above.

So my question: Is the "Reef" which is circled in red the 25 mile reef

Where do they measure the 25 mile from, that red spot only looks like 20 or so k's from the island on my chart so double the distance from that it would start is my guess. I don't have a clue where the reef is but 25 miles is just over 40km's.

They measure it from the main land. I found this on they internet.

Well don't know if that pic is to scale but it seems the be the reef you first marked in yellow, not that it is 25 miles from anywhere LOL but I guess old mariners didn't have GPS and all that.

LOL - I hope so....... May seems to be good for the Ambers up there (yes, I know that particular Amber spot very well....) and as long as sharks don't arrive, the chances are reasonable!!!

Those fish are seriously powerful.......

Looking forward to it BIGTIME!!!!!!

Updates in a few weeks time - hopefully good ones!!!!!

Cheers - RB

Looking forward to the updates. I want to pop around to your spot with Derek when you guys are back. I got seriously hooked on the jigging and want to get myself a setup.

Good luck and tight lines!

Looking forward to seeing you mate (previously only at the boat show in Jnb) - yes I still have a memory..... LOL.

Other thing that needs mentioning is that as the water cools, it triggers feeding by those GTs up there.....

Here's Big Hopes mixed with Big Expectations...... and a healthy dose of luck!

Chat later..... RB

KB you ought to give credit where those charts hail from

They were given to me years ago by Jeff Mahon who owns the printing company Variprint in Harare who compiled and printed them....

Go meet these fantastic okes in the pub at the Seta Hotel with the next Zim Marlin Competition which should be coming up in these days

Thanks Thika , I will definitely go meet the blokes when I am there again.Would really love to fish a comp up there in the near future.

Thanks for highlighting the origin of the chart , I can only imagine the time and effort spent in compiling it.

Hi Thika (long time boet!!!!) and Kleinboet.

The CADSAS was apparently cancelled on Friday as there have been 3 more attacks north of the Save River in the last week, which means the convoys down from Zim are possibly "hairy".

Many families who next week would have driven down to Inhassoro from Zim, will not for obvious reasons. Goodbye to much needed revenue in the region.

Inhassoro, and the Bazaruto region are by all accounts safe for now - but in the long term, its anybody's guess.

Looks like the drums are beating, and indigenous folk are restless........... Sad, but its the African way.

We're flying up there next Thursday - will give a heads-up when we get back.

Cheers, RB
