Wax On for casting distance distance?

"The next time you replace the line on your spinning reel, clean the lip of the spool and then apply a small amount of car wax to the lip. Allow it to dry, and then buff it out. The line will glide smoothly over the lip, with less friction, adding considerable distance to your cast and causing less wear and tear on the line."

Does anyone reckon this would result in any noticeable difference in casting distance using a grinder?

I look at it this way......distance casting is a combination of the right rod, reel, line, guide setup, casting action and sinker weight, topped with practice, practice, practice. There are no shortcuts.....If your technique or tackle is poor or unsuitable, you can buff the lip with solid gold or diamond dust till the cows come home, and it will make no difference. Everything has to be in sync for you to obtain max distance. And often further is not always better......

Fish4Fun I agree that the right tools for the job and the know-how to make it work properly will make a world of difference. Always good to know a little extra too though...

hey bud,

why stop at the reels lip!?

thats like 33% only there.. also check the reel is tip top for casting or one made for distance casting

then of course your line to get better distance must go through your guides.. so your guides can also be polished.. not saying you or anyone must polish their guides with car polish

picked up my grease yesterday at the post office http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Xtreme_Reel_Plus_Lubricant/descpage-XRL.html

didn't buy it for the guides on my rods but if you read through the specs you will see it can be used on guides

fit your rod with the best guides with the best casting reel you (anyone ) can afford with a thin film of this grease on the guides and you might see a difference in casting distance

Hey Flippy, thats an interesting idea. Might give it a shot. I generally fish with pretty light thin line as it is so casting is usually not much of a problem with my light 11ft scratching rod. Just had a mates ballie build me a new Purglas 375/3 - paired it with a fin-nor rampage 8000 grinder for bigger eds and was thinking of how to get some better distance with that. Usually dont throw more than 2 or 3 ounces...
