WASUP GUYS,

what other reasons do we fish for other than obviously catching fish...

i know for me personally when i go fishing i'm never alone and im always with my uncles and cousins so even if i blank on the day atleast i had a lekker time braaing, having a dop :beerand just being out in the open:::S...

what i'm trying to get at is, obviously the primary purpose is to outsmart,outwit and outplay the carp but why else do we do it?

having a dop braaing lol, pap swaai and wors braai,

i like the peace and often do 3 to 5 day sessions alone with just my dog, dont drink to much by the water or make fires i try not to leave a foot print, i also go fishing to beat my pb's catch monsters and learn about my quarry,

For me it is the same as Deisel said, I do it to get away from all people and to do a bit of soul searching so to speak.
When alone next to the water I can emty my thoughts and just become human again.

I don't mind blanking it's just soooo relaxing.

A bad day's fishing is still better than a good day's work.

I always say there is no better place than nature to get rid of stress relax and for me personally in nature I always feel the closest to God.

to do all the things we cant do at home with utter enjoyment. Fish like theres no tomorow.braai with all the K@Kpraat,dop like there no woman minding.

My reasons are much the same as above stated by FF. and of course there is always the MAN against Nature and man against himself challenge.

"Am I going to catch you, are you going to bigger than the last, I wont lose you again, wont you look good on a pic."

The challenge combined with the tranquility does it for me.

To soak up the peace and tranquility of nature , just that I can make it through another week . To know that this is how God created the world and not the concrete jungles humans build for themselves .

And lastly to learn and experience something new everytime

i think that there are very few carp anglers u dont show up... your catches are amazing...:wfish

for it is as follows

if i am at the dam then everyone and and everything OUTSIDE the gate does not exist
and i must agree with my fellow anglers that it does clean the mind and soul
if i did a 5 day trip and i come home again then i feel like a new person again

Quite simple, It's fun, and it really helps recharge you after a hard week. Nothing makes you feel more ready for the next week, than a weekend at the rocks/dam/surf/where ever, best pick me up you can have!!!

It's obvious. Where there's water, there are boats, fish and nice skimpy cladded chicks. Sometimes one, two and even all three at the same time.

What more could a man want ! (okay, beside beer, food and sympathy/empathy :)

Ok, it is a nice kick under the butt thrill when something rips the line out with a one way ticket to China, the girls ooohing and aaaahing in the background, off the boat of course. Am I repeating myself :-D

J_Bay, I usually need a week back at work to recover from fishing... You did it right when you drag your ugly butt into the house, hit the hay and the wife have to unpack the stuff. She then nurses you back to life over the next three days or so...

Experiencing the Great Outdoors, the Beauty & Splendour of Nature & giving your mind a brake. I can relate that it makes one feel closer to the Creator. Blending in with creation also bring me closer to God. The Majesty of it all, re-affirms my belief in God.

The addictive part of it is the rush of a screaming reel, playing the fish on your line & of course netting the fish. The suspense of not knowing what to expect or even when the reel will start screaming....keeps you on your feet & always guessing. Then there's the urge to try new things, to improve your catch, mastering your cast (a thrill in itself) & just competing against yourself. It strips you down & cuts you off from everything else, out there it's just you at one with nature.

Of course there's also bonding with family & friends, the smell of the braai, teaching the youngsters, all quality time spent. Heck, I can not think of any better pastime or hobby, Fishings got it all.

thanx shino kind words indeed ;), there are many guys on the site that catch more and bigger fish than me, they just dont post pics cause they humble, ;)

I always say that it charges my battery full again. If I haven't fished for a while my battery is flat and it needs a recharge.

After being at the water..No pressure...Nobody asking why and when...just you and the water and off course the screaming reels!!!

That charges my batteries again.
