Hi Guys and Girls

The question is as follows if you have R400 available to you and you want to buy a graphite rod with it what will you go for. I have done some research and came accross three that falls in that price range. Which one will you pick.

1. Blue Marlin Bazooka

2. Okuma Tournament pro (Schalk van Breda signature rod)

3. Sentation Torpedo

Keep in mind you only have R400 to spend.

Any advise will be appreciated

My tip is .. negotiate with the shops to borrow one.. then you will know for sure.. rods are like cars ... you should test drive before buying..

i know you have a price range... of 400 bokke But.......

I got the bazooka sensations 13' (goldish color) for R570 at western accessories.. these rods along with decent reels(NB)  KICKS ASS..

You are welcome to meet me sometime and test my rods with a couple of casts if you cant organise a loan one..

I agree with Gertus, I see in the new Tight Lines that the sensation BAZOOKA cast up to a distance of 158m. If you do not have the extra R170+ the 13" Sensation TORPEDO is still a good rod, they cast up to a distance of 140m.

One of my friends recently got the blue marlin bazooka 13' and he is very pleased with them. But if you can get to test the rods before buying, why not?

Thanks for the replies it is much appreciated.

Now the next question is what reel to get with the rod there the budget is even less and I will not be able to spend more than R250 to R300 on a reel. Can you guys give any advise here as well please

Thanks again

Hi Hennie

Yes there is a Blue Marlin Bazooka I saw it with my own eyes and if you look in the Bank Angler Mag you will see Western Accesories advertising it.

Hi there Dawid2005

There have been so many posts regarding this issue and the Sensation bazooka always gets mentioned. You will never go wrong with this product. I’ve also got two 13’ just like Gertus and they are brilliant for the price. I am not sure what the price diff Is but perhaps you can have a look at the 12”. I’ve got rods that were double the price of my bazookas and the hit the same distance. Only dif is the more expensive one are a bit lighter. If you can get one to test that would be GR8 but trust me the bazooka is a brilliant rod.

Reels , Reels , reeeeeeeeels…..Ja ne

I have had many reels and if I only listened to my local tackle shops owner when I started fishing. Shimano is the way to go but they are expensive.

For that budget try and get hold of the Okuma Silvara 50. Not sure if they are sill available.

I have tested the Blue marlin Bazooka as well and it is also a good rod but I till stand with the Sensation Bazooka.

SHop around. You shouls find the Silvara reels for about R320. Okuma also has the longbow out at a very good price. 6+1 bearing etc. for about R260.

the whole idea of testing the rod is to get a feel for it.. some like something solid and others want a lighter rod.. I made the move after hitting a hight tempo bite rate at 120meters I had to walk in 30 meters and cast.. bout 120.. this was done every 15minutes.. that nite i strugled to lift a beer as my arms were sore... something else to think about.. as a previous post stated.. there is not much between the 10' 12' 13' other than the price and the weight.. ive seen guys do something with a 10' i will netver do wiht a 13' ... the other factor with the 13' and one of the reasons i got it is to get over structure.. it does help if your point is hight and you reel fast to get over the haakplekke.. at homestead there is grass about 30 meters out and i get over easily.. only have to wade in to get the fish.. but then i used the BTE trace so dont loose feesh in the grass..
Anyhoo..
I need some coffee..
Laters.

I will let you guys know what I bought but this will only happen the end of March when I get my bonus so yea I am busy getting my duck in a row to make sure that I will not waiste my cash.

Gertus I might actually take you up on your offer to come and test your rods. I will let you know we stay close to each other so maybe when you at homestead again I can come around and cast one or twice with your rods and see how they feel

Thanks again for the info
