We have had a case, on Sealine, also about a boat manufacturer where building quality was suspect.

the boat builder also threatened Sealine with legal civil action if the treads were not removed.

unfortunately, the treads on sealine were deleted.


but this judgement seems to open the door for fair comment on the boats we buy and seek to buy.

it ultimately could give the future boat buyer enough information in order to make a informed desiccion on what boat he wants to buy.


out there in the deep blue sea, we are all alone when the sh!t hits the fan and making the right desicsion is of utmost importance.

Ja I wonder if that cowboy who was building boats in Natal and threatening all sorts of litigation when people posted about his boats falling apart, is still in business?

He is not going to try that k@k now, that is for sure! Build a k@k and unseaworthy boat and the ou's are now going to be all over you on the forums! Ja, I said it then, that if it goes to court, freedom of speech will prevail and the consumers' rights and inherent right to safety and security will come up trumps to someone's possible and potentially justified defamation.

My personal experience of our courts have been that they are very fair and just and don't take kindly to be used to further the agendas of bullies or bulls#itters. Our wheels of justice grind slowly, but they grind fine.

Looking on gumtree and the net, I don't see the guy that threatened Sealine, advertising anymore like he used to, I do wonder if karma bit him in the @rse..but anyway here's a free hull if anyone wants, saw that..

it seems as long as the comment is fair and to the point.
not becoming personal.

if we stick to those principals then we will win.
I recall that our tread was a bit personal at stages.

Nice!! The Butt Cat mold story is also interesting, the first mold was a concrete ground built effort.
Intrestingly Dave Olufson had a patent on the reverse chine on Ski Vee's and sued another builder (Trimcraft or Coastcraft or Acecraft or something) who copied it, the judge allowed them to carry on but they had to pay Dave royalties on every hull produced until the mold was changed or destroyed.

I recently bought a Acecraft , the floor and foam was done by professional boat place in Richardsbay the previous owner said. I could see it was recently done but none of the wood was sealed off. The wood is starting to rot and theres HUGE voids where the foam was not filled. So planning on doing it all over starting with replacing the transom that carries the 115The name of the company who did it is on the buoyancy sertificate....
