vertical jigs, trace problems

just been tidying up my tackle box and noticed that some of the vertical jigs could do with new hooks. When I removed the as purchase braid traces, underneath the shrink fit the hook was just 'whipped' to the braid and glued?
 I opened all my jigs up and this was the case with all of them, although some had the hook pushed through the braid, is this a normal set up?

normal on most factory rigged jigs that come with assists made up . best you make your own . simple overhand knot works great .

will work but you want the cord to pass through the eye , thatway the hook sits right on the jig , makes it a bit more riggid so as not to tangle

that method of attachment is standard for factory assist hooks but you can make your own using the red kevlar sold by Jig Star along with their solid rings.  The JS round rings have well rounded corners and very good.  Using this red kevlar make a simple overhand knot, slip the hook into the knot then tighten with pliers and pass the end loop through the hook eye and tighten again.  You can tidy the knot by trimming alittle and heat shrinking over the knot.  Simple knots in JS kevlar will not slip!  Cheaper braided cords tend to be less sure.

You will need to become adept at making you own assist hooks because the assist cord will generally need replacement well before the hook.  you can reuse the original hook if the point is in good condition and sharp.

Tunaman landed a 29kg GT this past week on a Demon jig with "factory fitted" Assist hook and rigging - No problems! Fish was landed in 8minutes!

not knocking factory tied assist hooks , most are whipped to the shank few are tied with an overhand knot. its better to tie with an overhand knot though IMO.

Well that explains it Bennie does the propper job not like those import jobs from the east !!!
