Hi Guys!

I've never been to the mouth of the Duiwenhoks and would really appreciate any info...

I'm looking for a place where the family can have a lekker fishing session for grunter and the other river species. Is it closed to the public or are there place next to the river that us mere mortals can fish?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Blikkies,

Are you looking for a place to stay as well?

See Koensrust: https://www.koensrust.co.za/#

They have an tented camp next to the river, I'm sure you can fish there as well. I've stayed in their "Kapstyl Huisie", and fished the surf, but haven't fished Duiwenhoks itself.

Thanks, but we are staying in Witsand.

Only want to make a day trip and was hoping there would be a nice place next to the river where we can cast a line.

Cheers

Hey Blikkies. There is a public slipway and also access to the river...Just follow the road past Vermaaklikheid and drive past the 'private property sign' at Puntjie... and drive down a narrow steep road towards waters edge. Once you get to the slipway follow the road which is very  narrow but there is a spot on the right hand side where you can park your car and explore the river banks for a suitable spot. Unfortunately that's as much as I know. Last time I was there we could see the grunter tailing in the shallows but wouldn't a damn take our baits. They say good kob catches are the norm in the estuary .... whether that's from the bank or on a boat I'm not entirely sure. Can tell you that Koensrust itself is a fantastic spot to stay for normal rock n surf. Beach Shack and Kaapstyl accomodation is simple but incredible setting and great conditions and structure for bronze bream, cracker, kob .... you name it.

Howzit Collin!

Thanks man, were going to to a bit of exploration, of course with a tin of mud prawns... I'll go and check it out!

Also very interested in this topic. Have also only done a road trip to check the place out and followed the narrow road right to its end. Along the river bank one can see people have been trying due to all the rubbish lying around, but it does look interesting. Would also take a few paddle-tail and plugs along. The river is not very wide so you should be able to cast close to the far bank and work it through the channel.
Whenever I'm in Witsand I tell myself, got to go for an afternoon session, but todate, its not happened :X;)

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the advice. In the end we didn't go... Time and moaning kids kept me in Witsand…
