VC's Hunny hole 20-3-08

Hi All,

So after some last minute planning and discussions a mid week trip was organised to one of JohanVC's secret hunny holes. Vern was also able to join us and what a great guy to finally meet in person.

So we departed Pretoria at about 07h45 destination Witbank and at about 9am we arrived at the secret spot after a quick chat to the owner it did not take any of us very long to get the sticks out and start thrashing the waters.

It did not take VC very long and within a few casts he was into probably the biggest fish of the day which he promptly long line released back to the depths. All this did for vern and myself was get fish fever going - but fishing proved to be tough and the bass were pretty finicty and were very fussy in what they would take.

It seems that Jigs and creature baits were the order of the day and I definately have to get me a few of dem jigs - VC please order me some with your order from the states.

Anyways to cut a long story short - VC and Vern made me feel like an amateur hammering fish left right and centre - VC I believe took three fish in about 3 casts at one stage - Anyways I was able to regain some of my dignity in injury time and was able to land a fish just before we ducked. Just about all the fish landed were all over 1 kg (I caught some serious fry).

Anyways it never ceases to amaze me what nice guys fisherman really are. I can highly reccomend the company and expertise of both Johan and Vern to anyone. And thatnks guys for the shits n giggles we had in the car both on the way there and on the way back - I had a fantastic day.

Here are a couple of highlights.

Woohoo:D. Thank you for the awesome report Ryan.

It was a real treat meeting you in person, and being able to enjoy a day of fishing with you.

Aye, what a great day we had. One cannot beat fishing days like that. It made me realize again that it's not the fish you catch, but the quality time one spend with friends.

To the other Members here: if either Johan or Ryan go fishing, and they ask if anyone want to join them, DO IT.  I, for one, won't hesitate!

Johan, on page 32 of SA Bass (April 2008), there is a pic of Andrew catching at Buffelspoort. The Gumtree on his right in the distance was about 120m north of where we were catching that Saturday.

Thanx for the great report back guys, makes me look forward even more to the next two weeks of being off and fishing like it's nobodies business..........
