VASFONTEIN BASS ESTATE

Location and Directions:

It is located just north of Pretoria (+/- 20km's), behind the Rooiwal Powerstation just of the Old Warmbaths road.

Take the N1 Northbound towards Pietersburg/Polokwane from Pretoria and take the Wahlmansdal Offramp.  At the top turn left and continue with this road until you get to a T-junction with the Old Warmbaths road (approx 4km) turn right.  Turn right again at the first tar road about 1,5km's further, this then bends back over the old Warmbaths road.  From there it's about 800m to Vasfontein Bass Estate which has a smallish signboard (easy to miss) on the righthand side of the road, however after crossing the Old Warmbaths road there is a road that turns out to the right(also a T-juntion), just past this tar road is the entrance to the main dams (2 of them), the other is at the T-jucntion that you have just passed.

Entrance Fee:

As far as I know it is R50-00 per half day, not sure because I haven't been able to really stay for an entire day.

Facilities:

There are some braai stands/built braais and a smallish tackle shop ot the main house.  You can also rent some fly gear should you be up for the challenge.

Fishing and water conditions:

The water has always been really clear as it has a constant supply of fresh water running through some filtering channel.  There is plenty of timber structure and a couple of jetties.

does this dam's get very crowdy?

i am planning on going there saterday but would rather drive to rust de winter if it's to crowdy?

No its not Johan van Coller, Vasfontein, doesn't get all that busy but it does get a little, RDW now you better hope that there's no comp because then even the banks get hectic, and BTW bank fishing at RDW is really tricky even if there's no comp.....

i went to rdw last saterday and found bank fishing fairly simple there.

anyways, thanx for the reply.

Yeah simple it is, but when you have boats flying up and down the water and stopping just past the place your casting to get to their spot every so often, well tends to limit your catch rate to a virtual ZERO....

No probs, remember to post a report on Monday or even on Sunday if you can, would be great.... Oh and BTW, apparently the guys that was there two weeks ago when that comp was on when me and the kid caught nothing the fish came out after 2 in the afternoon and they cauhgt something like 34 after two that afternoon, so rather go later than early.... just a thought!
