Bowfishing and spearfishing exotic species should be encouraged! GTZA's comments are spot on. I have heard from numerous sources that siltation on gravel beds accounts for huge damage. Carp may not prey on juvenile fish, but according to some will gladly consume eggs! I remember my first few flyfishing trips to the Vaal in the early 2000's - around 70 yellows in a day was common. Even with increasing experience and improving tackle, my catch rate declined steadily until I was battling to get more than a handful. When I started, Bass only existed above the barrage; after a couple of years we were catching them about 15km's downstream! In my opinion, yellowfish are a far more satisfying catch than any Bass or Carp - CLUB THEM!

Reference to your Atlure guys statement - Never said that we were good at catching muddies anywhere - but you would think with 70 odd boats on the water at least one or two would have come out much like grass carp. Hotstuff is a LTB angler and those guys fishing with bait did not catch any.....................HHhhhhmmmmmmmm makes you wonder. ANother question for you - do you have anyidea what "Artlure" Fishing is - Where's the skill in match angling? (see it is easy to make statements when you have zero knowledge on the subject - I have no idea what match angling involves therefore I will not make statements on subjects I am not familiar with)............ In previous artlure events on that particular section of the vaal muddies were always caught but they have all but dissappered - Maybe the fish are migatory - guess they just migrated when we were on the river....
I agree a 1.9kg fish is indeed an impressive fish - congrats to the angler whom caught it.

Seems our "All tackle IGFA record holder" does not wanna engage in debate on the state of the vaal river with the lack of muddies between the Barrage and the Vaal dam............
