Hi Guys, how is Parys looking for yellows? I imagine it is a bit washed out at the moment ... What sort of flow is ideal for fly fishing in the stream? Below 40 m^3/s? Thanks for the advice.
With 2300 cum coming out of the Vaal now and 17 gates open...
I would say the yellow season for this summer is done ...

I still have a bit of hope that we will be able to have a go by mid March/April….
Don't you think you have to wait that long, I fish the klip regularly, and even a few days after the vaal flooded I was hooking the yellows all over the klip. The vaal itself does not look very healthy, a HUGE amount of dead fish is causing a lot of stench etc. The klip and suikerbos is looking great, and although the water is still a bit dirty, the yellows are very active and spawning happily. I don't fly fish for yellows, I only use natural baits, and right now crickets are working like a bomb, this small mouth fell victim to it:

where in the klip do you fish? We caught many yellows and muddies in the klip in meyerton at the cricket grounds when i was a kid
has never c aught a carp or cat there but heard they was there... there is nice rapids in the meyerton area... caught a 4kg large mouth there which pulled my 6ft kurper rod almost into the river, before we started doing the fly thing
what is the top 10 flies someone would recommend for the vaal in the parys/koepel area?
