Hi Guys, how is Parys looking for yellows? I imagine it is a bit washed out at the moment ... What sort of flow is ideal for fly fishing in the stream? Below 40 m^3/s? Thanks for the advice.

I would say at least another 6 weeks. I phoned Elgro yesterday and they dam has flooded twice already. There is still more rain to come, so you probably looking at around 4 to 6 weeks at least. The best flow rate is around 25 to 30 CM p/s. Anything faster than 40 and wading becomes a little difficult.
The best time to go before the season ends for small mouth would be around the middle of March till the end of April. This is when the river has settled nicely again, flow rait is consistent and water still at good temperature.
Basic rule of thumb, when fishing small mouth, you best time is October till Mid November and then March and April.

I was at Stonehave for some lunch today, the river is back to its normal level, but very very dirty and the odour of sewage was quite significant, gonna be a while b4 I get on that river again.
Why do they get it wrong 2 years running, they should have been letting water out of the dam months ago

Go asked your local fly shop to make up a few, size 14/16. (Sollies at Fourways crossing have them specially made by some guy) They are around 13 bucks a fly but I landed 12 yellows in one morning at Eendekuil in November last year before Noah’s Ark came to town. This must be your dropper fly.
Mustard Caddis, Circle Hook.
Also go to Sollies and ask him to order Mustard Caddis with Circle hooks for your point fly, also size 14/16. I only found these kick ass little fly’s last year but they really work well and I found a great improvement in terms of less hook ups. This must be your point fly.
GHD/Goddard Emerger
Worked well in the afternoon when they start feeding of the top, often referred to by my mate as the golden hour. I changed to a dry fly dead drift nymphying rig. Used a super buoyant fly called kaufmans as a strike indicator and a Goddard Caddis Emerger.
The q megs are down to 40 mut the water is still dirty. At this rate we will definitely get a few sessions in before winter.

I think you meant to say how will the water be next week Saturday? Not sure and it all depends on the amount of rain we have and how many gates the buggers at Water Affairs open. The water is still very muddy but with a bit of luck we will have steady rain and the water will clear somewhat.
