Hi all, I am new to this.
I am going to Wild waters game reserve on the Free state side of the vaal river near Parys from the 31/05 - 03/06. Has anyone been/fished here before?
Any tips or advice on distance, bait to use aspecially this time of year as it is a first for me. Any help would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks:fishn

From my experience, the river is tricky in summer, even more so in winter, generally more challenging than the Vaaldam, so you're gonna need to have quite a bit of patience. Downstream of the Vaaldam wall has seen a drop in catch tempo, if you catch anything at all, but if you're gonna be there for a couple of days you might strike it lucky. For carp &/or muddies &/or yellows, try earthworm, brown bread, plain dough, or maize (one per hook). Try plain at first, failing that, try some flavours on the bom, garlic or tcp or duiwelsdrek. Then your floaties, banjo has worked for me as well as perdeby. For cats, try with platties, they've always worked well for me in the river. Hope that helps, browse through the sticky threads & you'll find loads of info, also, use the search function :)
