I'm planning a trip to Vaal Dam over the coming weekend.

I will greatly appreciate any information from anyone who has been recently there:

  • Water level;[/*]
  • Baits that are working at the moment (carp/barbel);[/*]
Thank you in advance!

Hi Gogo

I am looking at going to Aqua Via. I checked the dam levels on the net yesterday and the vaal is currently standing at 103%.

Tight Lines

Hi dawid,

Thank you for the information, 103%!!! eish, that is too much water for my liking. Even with remote control boat or rubber duck one can not get into the natural river bed.

Good luck!

Hi Dawid,

Any luck? I had a disaster of a trip.

Went to Jim Fouche, and at about 10km from the place realized that I have left at home all the material for my feeding spot, and on top of that the remote control for my boat.

Already quite upset (to put it mildly) with my own stupidity arrived at the gate of the place and guess what - The fat tannie brigade with long slim divorcees hanging from the bottom lip of their mouth have taken over the place.

The conversation went along the following lines:

Me: One night camping, please.

THE TANNIE: Surname...ID number...Cell phone number... Finger prints... The size of your under pants etc. etc. etc.

Me: How much do I owe you?

THE TANNIE: 205 Rand.

Me: I did not ask to buy the chalet, I asked for one night spot camping with my tent.

THE TANNIE: Yaaaa... 205 Rand.

Day light tanniebbery, and they do not even provide toilet paper in the toilets. Some of the municipal sites charge you ZAR 35 per night and some of them provide you with toilet facilities in much better condition at Jim's Tannies.

On top of that I had to find a place next to a guy with about 200L drum for a feeding spot (this was not the TANNIES foult). Next to the Blieksembaan and bunch of snottie little kids going up and down on a four weelers. After 10h00 on the folowing day my had was the size of a TV screen from the noize, and I had no where to run.

The result - for one night and one day - not even a byte.

My last time at Jim Tannies.

I hope that you had a better time...
