Using baloons to float out bait at Kosi Bay

Would recommend a windsong kite (www.windsongkites.co.za) Fishing kite is R145 and they'll post it overnight to you.
Can tack it into a 70 degree cross wind and will get you bait out better than a balloon.
Kite fishing with a release clip to drop the bait or a roller troller clip helps you to cover a lot of water and is great to fish live baits with.

North pier was one of the only good place's to use this method succesfuly because if the off shore starts blowing it was form strait behind you.. North pier is closed for now... But if u can find a point that work' s in a off shore wind u can use this method.. The only problem is the polution it causes all those black bag's in the water..
Spoke to a few lads. They recon the current on the north side of Kosi on outgoing tide will give the baloon a decent pull. Any ideas on what live baits to use. Was thinking smallish anything 500g-1kg class. Read on a few websites that the current is your main source to get the ballon out wind also. Anybody know if the tigers have started showing up on the north coast?

even 1 to 2 kg kingys work well.....* runs and stick's head in hole!!!! if you goning for game fish like GTs= wavegarick, and as Mike said bonefish, but dont be seprized if a toothy critter picks you up...also try put a cutaduster of the trace just for more flare....

Why do you not try and fish the way that the Aussies do. Using a balloon filled with helium. The idea is that this then takes the bait out. You effectively have a skip bait out around 300 - 400m. Very effective especially for couta. The balloon connected as you would a normal surf running trace. Bait can be anything that has good flash. Remember the bigger the bait the bigger the balloon you need to carry it. You want the bait out of the water 20 - 30 % of the time. You do need a nice land/offshore wind.

the only places at Kosi where you might come right with a baloon are black rock and possibly Kosi Mouth on the outgoing tide.. anwhere else you'll battle to get it out over the bank. The baits at Kosi you'll probably use are wave garrick and maybe a bone fish if you lucky.. The guys get a few couta off black rock using baloons.. don't go there expecting to get shad as bait as they haven't been there this season at all and the only place you might get mullet is Kosi Mouth..
