upgrades for 2013

Hi guys.

I was in n shop yesterday who had a bit of variety(thank goodness). I'm looking to upgrade my rods first and then to get the reels. At the shop I was looking at three brands and their top the line (or close to) rods namely shimano Beastmasters, WAFT Black Stallions and Sensation DC's.

I loved the feel of both the Shimano's and WAFT's. I was hoping to get my hands on the Raging Bulls but they were out of stock.

My question to the forum is which rods to choose and why? I love to cast and to cast far but playing fish is also important as this is where the fun lies. I'm not a competitive angler thus tempo fishing does not apply. Budget per rod is R1600 max and 13' is a must. Any other suggestions are more than welcome.

I have read the sticky with regards to distance rods but I would like a detailed description of the rods all-round capabilities and not just the "gooi far" aspect.

Thanx in advance guys

I have to say I loved the action of the beastmasters and the black stallions. The DC range feels like an unforgiving broomstick.

Yes and if you don't like the feel of the dc I doubt you will like the feel of the raging bulls they are also very stiff rods,I had both a set of beastmasters and raging bulls but I sold the raging bulls and stayed with the beastmasters. They are probally the best rods out there very nice soft tip but will still send a bom far.You will also go under your budget as they are about R1250

Gc, what sort of distance are you getting from your rods? I see you're using 12'? I've always been most comfortable with 13's

The ones I saw in the shop were 13' 3.5tc. Must say the ox blood finish wasn't all that hot. The black stallions have a much better look in my opinion

Well best allround 13ft rods must be Custom G2's made by Enigma. Bit over your budget but worth it all the way. They are strong enough to cast a long way yet the tip is soft enough to enjoy the fight.
Orderd myself a set of them after having a chance to fish with them.

Extra long casting means lots of money. Good setup will set you as much as 10K - one rod one reel .
Reel is by far more important  then the rod.
I have 2 Daiwa Basia 10 year old , I can cast around 130-150 m with a specimen set up . 4 oz sinker with hair rig - one hook one boilie.
I thought that was very good until I bought Shimano Aero Technium 10000 MGS.
Loaded with 20 LB Jerry brown and with 10m of  0.35 mono as top.  Tested with 13" Beastmaster and 12' Sonik SK4 with extra large eyes .
With Sonik and Shimano Aero I was reaching 180 m on a day without the wind. On a windy days no chance , braid will make huge loop .
With Bestmaster few meters shorter.
It is unbelievable how the super slow oscillation of the Aero Technium makes line flying without any resistance. Line is packed one next to each other.
I believe the Bulls Eye also have slow oscillation but not sure is it the same as on Aero Technium MGS.
