Umtata River Mouth

We are going to Umtata River Mouth for December Holidays.

Does anyone know what the fishing is like at Umtata River Mouth.

Fished there about 2 years ago last. Great scenery and I think under better conditions it could be very productive. The day we were there, all we managed were a few very undersized cob as well as an eel of about 1.3meters

Theren are a few threads on Umtata river mouth. fishing can be good, but as its a fairly big river, dec tends to mean rain and a s a result, mud and dirty water. never caught much there in dec due tot he dirty water.

Sorry, only found this thread now!

I was up at Mtata during Easter. My bro and I got spooled several times my big(10 - 20kg) kob right in the river, near the mouth at night. We were fishing big rapalas with very very slow retrieves, on light line(probly why we got smashed so often). The water is dirty, so kob are ussually around.

We did manage a few smaller fish. (1 -3kg), but they just dont compare!

There were also small barracuda in the river, and shad were plentyful around the rocks.

Keep an eye out for shoals of yellowtail feeding just offshore. We saw them, but never once had them in range.
